hi all,
have had loads of newer cars and a couple oldies... mini sidewalk and a nova gsi c20xe.. just sold my tt and fancy something classic..
really like the look of imps but minis are more readily available, only thing is i think minis fetch more than they're worth
opinions and vote please

According to my dad if you want to go fast buy a Mini but if you want to go faster buy an Imp lol. He's had lots of both in the past.

I'd go for mini, a good friend of mine has had both and the imp is a slower car without a lot of work (comparing to a standard 998 mini) I like Imps greatly but parts seem to be much more difficult to come by. Saying that there are millions of minis so an imp would be a bit more unique. Minis handle better I find

I'm a little unsure what they're really worth tbh aswell? I want a standard clean one with little rust While you'll find your fair share of rusty imps, they don't all seem to be rotten, and you can find a lot of pretty solid examples for a reasonable price.

theres one in edinborough for £2k, i however would rather pay more like half of that or a little above.... good point minis are a lot easyer to get parts for

i was brought up on minis and have done a lot of moding with them, had an imp briefly and tuned that a bit (gave up due to cost of proper go faster bits).
the imps a much better car but you can get mini tunning parts a lot easier.
i'd go for an imp, cheaper to buy a nice one and then spend the extra cash on getting a built engine and tunning parts from a specialist.

Imp for me, had lots of both, love Mini's but they are a swine to work on, power unit weighs a ton, needs an engine crane, Imps power unit weighs next to nothing, can be pulled out on a trolley jack, i once fully built an Imp engine in my bedroom then carried it myself downstairs out to the garage. Also you don't need any special tools for Imp suspension.
Imps are pretty horrible as standard though (positive camber etc), suspension bits are reasonable as are disc conversions, as mentioned though fast engines are expensive (like 2.5K for a webered 998 from a specialist) and can be fragile if not built or looked after properly, i had a standard Sport spec lump in mine with a Janspeed exhaust, was nippy enough, car was stripped out though.

Imp! Cheaper and more unusual. And my Mum reckoned her Singer Chamois was quicker than a Cooper 0-30. A bit different 30-60 admittedly...

imp all the way! ive got 2 of them my daily is in pritty much std form (lowerd, sport cam 4-2-1 exhaust manifold) engine runs out of steam at about 6.2k rpm but at thar rpm in 4th you would be looking ar nearly a 100 mph and I very easily keep up with modern traffic and an imp on montie carlo springs will out handle most modern things around roundabouts (as I prove quite often) my daily 39 bhp std can easily go up to 55 with a sport head and exhaust and you can get the imp up to about 100 bhp for about 2.5 k (it is very fast for what it is then) imps are bigger than minis good if you are 6ft 3 like me you should look to pay about 1500 quid for a solid but tatty looking car parts are very easy to come by there are atleast 3 main suplyers who 2 of just specialise in imps and parts allways pop up at autojumbles and if that fails someone on the forum will have one ;D any questions just ask
