Hello! Tell you what, I'll fill you in. Around here you're either into Minis (Dminifreak, formerly Checkm81380, not sure what he claims to be these days!), Volvos (hello Wagoneer!), Japanese cars (Datsuncherry for example!), things with V8s (most of them!), Skodas and other stuff from the USSR (Skocan etc...), or old motors in general. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Then theres me... The freak! I'm into all of the above, but I'm the only one here deranged enough to be obsessed with Hillman Imps and other rear engined stuff. So avoid me, I'm a bad influence! ;D

Sounds like fun to me!!! Some of that older J stuff is real sleeper style. Think that's half the appeal though I've never really looked at that sort of car in that way before Most of it's cool in it's own way aswell. There was an Imp near me, bog standard but was mint.

Hi Ratters! Is that your Escy? It looks smart.
The good thing about us RRers is that we are interested in everything! If you're open minded you should fit right in.

The Escort's Maroon with an Ermine White roof at the moment. It's one of those daily driver projects that goes on & on & on...... Had it for years now & there should be much more done to it than there is but that's always the same ain't it?? ;D Was only ever into Classic Ford but since Retro Cars came out I've widened a bit. It's just that all this other stuff is fairly new to me so knowledge is limited still!!! Read a few of the PPC aswell.

Ayeup ratters Welcome aboard! I'm new here myself but it's most definayely a top forum. My passion is for Japanese cars and old Datsuns in particular but I like all old stuff so I feel right at home here. Many a time I've come very close to buying some other oddball like a Pug 104 or a Renault 16. I have had Austins, VW's Vauxhalls and all sorts of other stuff in the past but I have to confess the only Ford I've owned is a Transit I did so nearly but a 1300E (in purple ..mmmm) and to this day I regret not grabbing it as it was nearly rot free and only £250 Still I have probably the nearest Japanese equivelent to an Escort now so no biggy ;D

One J motor I'd love to get a hold of is a mid/late 70s Mazda B1800/B2000 pick up. My Dad had a customised one in the 80s, which he used for business, hauling scrap metal, so it was no beauty queen, actually it was kind of Mad Max's car meets the rat look, and was quite nice, and he swore by the thing. If I could find one I'd do something similar, but he just had a slightly tuned 2 litre Mazda petrol in it, I'd have a V8, just for the fun of it!

I used to work for a Truimph specialist that had a B1800 as the works truck. It was a great old thing..column shift and a bench seat too! There's actually one in a scrapyard not far from where I live. It really doesn't deserve to be there as it's actually quite solid... even the bed sides are still sound... Actually, in the same scrappy there's also a few other old cars (how rare is that these days!) including this old Lancer.... And this is an unusual thing to find in a scrappy... a Moskivitch panel van!... There's a load of other old cars in there including Mk3 'Tina's, a B Kadet, HC Viva, Truimph 2000 estate and Dollys, some old Renaults, Pugs and Citroens and even a Honda N600. It is all slowly going though as they modernise the place...damned EU rules

Now look what you've done! I want the Mosky and the Mazda now! ;D Just a shame I don't have the time/money/space to keep either and unless you stay anywhere near the West coast of Scotland you're way out of my way, so I'd never be able to get a crippled old motor home from that scrappy.
And that Triumph specialist's Mazda sounds dead like the model my Dad had. It still had it's bench seat and column change box too! Another good idea would be to put a Mazda Wankel rotary turbo in there, from a later RX-7, imagine the speed of that b*stard. Although the gearbox might have to be changed to the RX-7 one to handle the power increase.

I'm pretty sure there was a Mazda pickup at Rotorstock earlier this year that had a rotary in it. Mazda did do a pickup with a rotary from the factory in the 70's which was marketed in the states.

Hello Ratters! Nice looking Escort! Word of advice: leave your wallet WELL away from your computer when reading and posting on here! Mazda did do a pickup with a rotary from the factory in the 70's which was marketed in the states.

That's nice, but it looks a bit overdone compared to the simpler styling of the four cylinder ones, and I'd love to do one up in the rat look, with the bigger more modern Wankel engine.

Welcome Ratters!
Not many Fords here, so its nice to see a clean MK1 Escort. I have a soft spot for Mexico's, especially in blue with white striping.
We're all one big happy family with the same obsessions!

Another cool Wankel that could be fitted to a retro car is the Lada Wankel range (bet you never knew Lada did rotary engines, did you? ) The little one is a single rotor (70 bhp in standard tune, and small too and light-weight, maybe one would go in an Imp or Mini? ;D) Then there was a twin rotor, with 130 bhp as standard, maybe it could go in a larger motor like Skoda or something? Then there's this beast... A three rotor with 210 bhp out of the factory, now imagine what a turbo could do to that, and it'd still be much lighter than a Rover V8 and about half the size too! They put these in loads of racing Lada Zhigulis (Rivas) and the odd Niva, and also the KGB's Zhigulis. They still make them too, so parts could be got for them too! There were a few GAZ Volgas with the same engine, and I want one a lot!! ;D)

Wow, never knew Lada had so much to do with rotarys! Nissan also had a dabble and came close to production of a Sunny Coupe with a rotary. They displayed the car at the '72 Tokyo Motorshow and said it would be in production within a year. Then the fuel crisis hit It was based on the JDM market Sunny Excellent Coupe (KPB110) which was like our 1200 coupe (KB110) but with a bigger engine and some restyling. I would image that a rotary one would have been pretty fast! I know they produced more than one KPB110 rotary as I've seen pics of a red one too. Wonder what happened to them? Here's some pics...

That would have been some car! It could've cleaned up in the Japanese Touring Car Championships, and any other championship it entered if they had released it. I love those colour-coded wheeltrims!
