hi all, will hopefully be fitting a straight six bmw engine int my p4 rover soon, any advice on wiring it up? what will i need like ecu etc, looked at 2 engines recently,one was v-belt in a 1990 e30,1 was a flat belt in a 96 e36, which would be best/easiest? any help/tips and advice will be handy cheers paul

you will need as much wireing as you can get from the donor car along with the ecu, relays pumps and well everything don't throw anything away till your done, Good luck

E36 6-pots are chain driven. BMW engines come with an easily unplugged loom, which should contain your ECUs and pretty much all the engine wiring. look up X20 connector for info. The later engine (M50) will be a bit heavier, more powerful, more complicated, more reliable. Earlier engine (M20) will be the opposite of that.

E30 6 cylinder "M20" engines are single cam and therefore less wide in the head area, they also sit more vertically than the E36 engines. 2.5L we are talking 170bhp. These are cambelt driven. They have front sumps.
E36 6 cylinder "M50" engines are dual cam and have much wider heads, they also lean to the drivers side compared to an M20. E36 have rear sumps, if you needed a front sump the E34 5 series M50s can donate a front sump. You can get tubular exhaust manifolds from an E36 328i. 2.5L are 190bhp.
