So, in honour of my 666th post, I thought I would have a little look for a suitablly evil ride to post up. Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, I give you this Jaguar XJ220R, chassis no.784... A quick bit of research found this: If the Jaguar XJ220 was the fastest production car in the mid-nineties, then the TWR supercar made from the Le Mans race version had to be astonishing. Compared to the standard XJ220, TWR's version sported a new composite body, a more powerful engine and went on a weight-reducing diet.
In January of 1993, Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) and Jaguar Sport launched the XJ220C to compete in the GT class (Group N) of FIA motor sport. At the same time, they announced the XJ220S, a limited-production, road-going version, to comply with homologation requirements. It was easily the most radical supercar in Britain.
Although the standard XJ220 was clothed in a lightweight aluminum body, TWR's version replaced every panel, expect the doors, with carbon fiber. In doing so they added a front splitter, wider sills and an adjustable rear spoiler that gave the car an imposing edge and made the standard XJ220 look docile.
Overhauled out to 680 bhp, TWR took the twin-turbo V6 to its limits. Combined with a weight reduction that removed the stereo, air conditioning and heavy seats, the car could accelerate to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reach 228 mph.
Only nine TWR XJ220s were completed and six of these were made as road-going S models. Almost all of the six cars have changed colors at least once and many made it over to America after Vik Keuylian, of Keuylian Motorcars, imported several.
#784 has since been painted black, received custom wheels and new Infiniti projector headlights.

any idea where this car lives? i saw one in LA last year with a face full of flies and a coat of road grime. it was the odd one out in a garage full of italian exotica and there can't be that many of them out and about. needless to say i walked straight past all the lambos and ferraris and had to be torn away from it.

Meh - it's still a Rover with a Metro engine in it - albeit slightly fettled... Lets turn this comment around.... surely it adds a level of awesome that they have managed to tune a "metro" engine to 600+ BHP?! Kind of like how it was awesome that the M10 BMW block went from 120BHP in road trim to monster F1 power?!

Jeez - perhaps if I'd added half a dozen smilies the sarcasm police wouldn't be on my case?!?
To clarify I was making a tongue-in-cheek comment about the car's humble origins...so (SARCASM WARNING) it's not bad for a weekend potting shed project car.
I'd consider flogging a kidney for it...

Meh - it's still a Rover with a Metro engine in it - albeit slightly fettled... One of my favourite things about it is that it's a 200mph+ car with Rover 200/400 rear lights ;D 1992 Rover 416 GTi [R8] by coopey, on Flickr That and the fact that they're 'kin huge, about 6'8" wide. I love the XJ220, it's at the top of my pantheon of supercars with the Ferrari F40 and the Mclaren F1. It, the F1, the Bugatti EB110, the Lamborghini Diablo, I think were my generation's bedroom wall poster cars and I remember being really excited at about 8 years old that the fastest car in the world was British ;D I've never even heard of the XJ220 S, very cool. Thanks for sharing Edited, to cover the fact that I said it had Rover 200 rear lights and then posted a picture of a 416... ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
