havin problems with the CA18DET in my capri, got it in and it fires, ticks over alright but it just wont take any revs, starts to stutter and missfire as soon as you touch the throttle
I have had the head off, totally stripped it down, new HG, head skim , checked the valves, all good, pistons are all good, fitted new bearings etc etc, so I am pretty damn sure its not mechanical, the timing has been set according to a number of different sources to 15BTDC
looking for suggestions of what to change or test to find out the cause of the problem, any suggestions welcome, I am tearing my hair out!
thanks

first id do is clean the coils.. pull off red rubbers pull out little carbon things and get a good little dremmel bit in there to clean up the brass bits inside wash out and refit.. they're known to crud up..
also sound a bit like a fuel pressure thing.. have you got a decent supply of clean fuel with a decent pump (a bosch 044 or walbro 255 IS needed I discovered after loads of probs with mine..) and just a thought have you got the feed and return fuel pipes the right way round?? ive had this prob before when those have been wrong..
just a few ideas.. hope you get it sorted dude... si

yeah, its a Bosch 044 pump, i do have a reg, but no matter what i do with that it makes no difference (even if i bypass it totally)
didnt realise that the coils gunged up! i had swapped them for 4 known good ones, but knowing my look removing them from my mates engine n stickin them on mine may have mucked them up too, so will try cleanin them up too! i would buy new, but i cant find new OEM ones and uprated ones are near on £200, which i just cannot afford right now!
and fuel pipes are top in bottom out?
thanks very much for the suggestions mate

you mention bypassing the fuel reg. the fuel reg is after the fuel rail so bypassing it would mean all the fuel would be returning to the tank. post some pics up of the fuel lines into the fuel rail and which way you have them plumbed in. maybe you've got em the wrong way round?

no I mean I put on an after market fuel reg as well as the standard one, some people say you need one, some say you don't, so I got one figuring that if I didnt need it at least it would look cool and have a pressure gauge on it so I know the fuels pumping this is the only pic I have of the fuel lines (aftermarket reg not fitted)

ah k. top in bottom out is right anyways, and you've seen what pressure you have with the gauge? well, i'd be checking and double checking the rubber intake hoses, oil breather hoses, air flow meter.
hmm have you checked the ecu for fault codes? they have a cool built in diagnostics system if you didn't know?

yeah, the LEDs flash, you count the flashes and check it against a code, came out 5 and 5, which means no malfunction hahaha
