Have got some money for tyres now for my rascal van. I have some lotus rims which look great, but can't decide what tyre to go for. I like the slighty stretched look, but nothing too extreme. Lotus rims are 14" dia and 7" wide What do people think would give the best results? I'm guessing a 165-185 width and 55-70 Aspect ratio. Advice very much appreciated Gary

Well my advice would be this. Speak to your local tyre fitters and see what they are willing to fit to your wheels. Unless your going to fit them yourself then your choices will be limited by this. A tyre fitter is going to be the best person to ask for all the pro and cons of stretched tyres. For every two width sizes go up or down one aspect ratio series to maintain rolling radius If you go for a 165 70 it should have the same rolling radius as a 185 55. But it looks like you already know that. edit to fix mindless typo

Are you lowering it? You'll need 165 width max to get them anywhere near the arches. Depending on how low it is 155 or 165 with 55 or 60 profile will look best.
Don't bother asking the tyre fitter what he's willing to fit. Take him the tyres and the wheels, tell him to fit them. If they won't go on just with air get him to put all 4 tyres on, then go home and use the hairspray method to blow them on.

Check out www.tyrestretch.com. It's pretty handy for finding out what different stretch's will look like, then www.willtheyfit.com can give you an idea of how they'll sit, and what the rolling radius will be like compared to standard. These are 165/55 R13's on a 7" rim, it sounds like this is the sort of thing you're looking for? www.tyrestretch.com/7_165_55_R13/

These are 165/55/14 on a 7" rim (pair of wheels in the foreground): The offset is different to the Lotus rims you've got, so yours won't stick out as much (which is a good thing ) but gives you an idea of the amount of stretch they give on the wheel - not drastic at all... Tyres can be bought here: 165/55/14 from MyTyres
