thats such a beautiful car , always lusted after one. Are there not any Lancia style replacement lumps available? If it was me i would much rather stick with something in the Lancia /Fiat group.. In fact the original lump reworked would do it for me , these motors mean so much more to me if original.. ah I see it would be a temp replacement.. dunno what would fit but plenty of Italian iron to measure up for fitment.. good luck

Alfa 33 Boxer engine and gearbox? I never realised these had a V4 always thought they were 1600 twin cams.

Having both a '66 fulvia 1200 & a '74 2000 berlina (flavia ) with 2l flat 4, Dad has been measuring up both & believes the flat 4 would fit... with much commonality to later fulvia gearboxes. Not exactly a common engine though. I'd 2nd the Alfa 33 flat-4, or Subaru..

Ford V4 ? ;D Did you measure up a VR6 from VW ? They are not that long .... and could be interesting ....
edit : Wankel ? Might not be straightforward, but these engines are very compact, and this conversion would be very unique, as a lot of people where converting their wankels to V4s in the past .-...

I'd put a vote in for the Alfa boxer lump in any flavour.
I wouldn't dream of putting something as nasty as a Ford V4 in such a refined little car.

I was going to suggest this for exactly the same reason ;D That said, can't beat the proper engine for these, the sound suits them down to the ground.

Please just source another V4 as the car in the pics deserves to be kept original. There are loads of more tatty cars out there to play with engine swops if you want an Alfa/ Subaru etc powered Fulvia.

Good suggestions one and all, Does anyone have any of these engines handy so they could throw a measuring tape around them? ettorebugatti- I was thinking of a bike engine too but would like to keep the original gearbox in to improve drivabilitiy and the abilitiy to swtch back to original engine when its all rebuilt. stealthstylz- a 33 boxer would be perfect! any idea how big it is, would love to keep it italian. 79cord it would appear that someone has already thrown a flavia lump in a fulvia (they both sound like a ladies underpants fillers) s886.photobucket.com/albums/ac63/nedetailing/Lancia%20fulvia/?action=view¤t=P1050244.jpgmrj- Wankel would be very cool, wonder how much you can pick them up for. Ford v4 would be super boring for such an exciting car.

Ford v4 would be super boring for such an exciting car. i was joking with the Ford V4, i wouldn't want that in a concrete mixer ... i think a Mazda Wankel would be easier to source than a NSU one (and cheaper) ... the Alfa 33 boxer is a fine machine, don't have measurements, these cars have all disappeared over here, i would go for the normal 1,7 8V, enough power, maybe an older 1,5 (no fuel injection necessary), stay away from the 16V , as the heads are massive and could cause space issues. Before buying an engine i'd check the rotation, would be a pity to have 4 reverse gears afterwards ...

I would suggest a Honda pan european engine, 1100cc - 1300cc lots of torque and very reliable, perfect for a road car.

For some reason in my head the Fulvia engine bay is super cramped, all sorts of wing metalwork and bulkhead stuff going on?? The Alfa engine is relatively compacted but kinda wide.
Small modern engines, like the Honda engine might be good.... Or if you want to keep it Italian I've been thinking an Alfa 145 engine would be a good swap for something smaller, older and Italian for a little while.

Wow, I've never seen inside one of these engines before and just reading the Wiki article on them, they look like a really clever bit of design. Almost like a Volkswagen VR engine but first used about 60 years earlier I know it's not what you're asking and kind of not in the spirit of things, but I'd be inclined just to source a direct replacement. It might just be me but I'd be fascinated enough just playing with that engine

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
