whilst we were sunning ourselfs on the bank (and getting burned ) watching the intresting assortment of cars being thrashed down the strip , we were fortunate enough to witness some peep probably not on here or anything to do with the retro car scene at all, blow up his nissan pulsar gti-r it started smoking heavily bout the 80y mark and proceded to get worse and worse till it dissapeared in a big blue cloud at the end of the strip having dumped the conents of its sump all the way along the stip , anyway this car was the next car to go down the strip and low and behold the poor chap got VERY sideways half way down the track swaped from the pukka pies lane to the autogleam lane at bout the 1/8 mile mark , fortunatly there was no contact and the only thing broken was the pulsar owners engine and pride , and not the front of the magnum(please correct where wrong )(oH and maybe some soild pants ;D) here's the question (as i'm going to the gti festival this weekend) IF oil is laid down on the cause and myself or the person in the other lane lose control and have a coming together is santa pod liable for any incident that was avoidable by them and if not is my trackday insurance cover valid on the strip? i know its not as likely to happen with a fwd car but what if ?

Bing! And IMO, yeah, it was pretty lousy of the Pod crew to let him run. Dunno whether that makes them negligent though. End of the day, if you don't want to run after an oil-down, I guess they can't make you.

Never done a quarter myself but don't you have to agree to a disclaimer that is all at your own risk?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Like any motorsport, you just got to accept it's a risky business. Once we start looking around for someone to blame the minute an accident happens it'll open the floodgates to the ambulance chasers and those looking for a fast buck. Next thing you know the safety will get tightened up so much due to venues trying to minimise their liability that it'll all be no fun anymore.

Exactly what ratdat said. Be vigilant at a RWYB and you'll be fine. People do have to be vigilant themselves and answer for their screw ups.
Reanimation - you sign summat or other - in all the times I have been there I have never read what it says - d'oh!

Ha Ha yeah.
Like ratdat says; compensation culture has made life a bit of an extra pain and made extreme sports harder to do. I know BMXers had a big issue a while ago and probs still do, when kids dparents where sueing parks cos the kid - probably (helmetless and gormless) got hurt.
I'd imagine places like the Pod just try to do the best and safest job they can, after all they don't want to close down do they?

i have to say, the pod crew are usually BANG ON! whilst it doesnt excuse them for alloying him to run, it is a rarity for that sorta thing to happen.
as said, if you arent happy then don't line up!

It's risky and I don't know the stats but surely they wouldnt have been there 30 years if they were careless...

Been to the pod a few times before, ran a 15.01 last time out with a missfire now got everything running properly + chip and pully so it should go to a high 14 , this has just thrown upa red flag

it shouldnt be a problem for you mate. take a friend, have him 'crew' for you and watch the strip while you queue up. If anything looks untoward then either insist on someone going ahead of you or choose the other lane. They cant make you run after all. Just use some common, and go with your instict and you should be fine. If you have reservations then don't run.

don't forget Pod weather doesn't follow any forecast at all.... regularly it says it's raining at Wellingborough and Northampton, yet the pod has bright sunshine.
