Right I have a mobility scooter, and a 50cc automatic scooter. I will be fitting the petrol lump to the scooter but need to know an idea about gearing..not sure on sprocket sizes for the motor and if the one on the rear axle is too big or small...where do I start or is it a case of trial and error...thanks

Are they both currently chain drive?
What size sprockets are on there at the moment?
What speed will the petrol scooter currently do roughly?
What speed do you want the finished contraption to do?

The mobility scooter is chain drive, but the moped engine isn't, I will need to find and adapt a sprocket to fit. The scooter does 30mph but I maybe deristrict it to do maybe 45. The mobility currently tops out at 8 mph.... the speed I want it to reach? Not overly fussed but around 25mph maybe

Haha, 25 on one of those things would be mental, but awesome! If the mopeds not chain drive at the moment where are you planning to fix a sprocket? Where the wheel would usually go?

if i remember rightly.... don't those scooters have the engines cast into the swingarm and they use some weird variodrive between the motor and wheel so you'd have to take a drive from the wheel to keep the auto trans.

Yeah its an automatic, the sprocket will go where the wheel originally would have been, can weld it to the "driveshaft" or What ever its called that the wheel bolts to. It's coming from a Honda sfx50

Well the mobility scooter wheels (looking at your pics in the ROM section) looks to have similar sized wheels to a standard scooter.
Therefore if you put the same sized sproket on the scooter (where the wheel was) and the mobility scooter, the moby scoot would do the same speed as the scooter.
Now, 30mph would be mental on that thing, so perhaps gearing down to 20 mph would be best. If you put a sproket on the scooter with half as many teeth as the one on the diff unit in the moby scoot, you would do 15 mph. De-restrict the scooter and you have 20 mph ish.
Does that make any sense??
