Hi guys, Hope you are well. I'm looking to give my Viva a bit of rust protection this weekend. The plan is to give the underside a liberal coating of waxoyl. I've not done this before so have a few queries. 1.how much do you think i will need, I was thinking about 3 litres. 2. Is it ok to just spray it on the underside or do I need to clean it all down and remove any surface rust first? 3. I was planning on getting the 1 litre cans and using my underseal gun through my compressor, is this the best way to do it or would you get the big can and splash out on the aplicator too? Many thanks, Gareth ;D Have a picture for gratefulness!

I use underseal gun+compressor+ i've got one with an extension probe to get inside the sills. The waxoyl manual pump applicator thing i've found is pretty rubbish I think you'd be better with an old paint brush!
I'd attempt to give it a bit of a wire brush to lose any old underseal/rust
3litres sounds ok, you might find if the car hasn't been done before or for a long time most of the waxoyl soaks up into the metal. You might well need an other application in a months time, after that I do it once a year! My saab hadn't been done before and 2 weeks after I'd waxoyled it it didnt look like i;d done any thing! Has needed another 2 applications since. I got the gallon tub to refill the 1litre ones

I used a wallpaper pasting brush and got through a big tin under my Viva. Got a pump and a long tube to get into the chassis rails too. Brushed off as much dirt as i could first but if it's dry i don't think a little bit would hurt.

I clean of all the old crud with a brush where ever i can. I have to make do with the wax oil applicator and a paint brush. When I use the applicator I stand it in very hot water as this thins the wax oil down and sprays a lot better. Where i can i brush it on rubbing it in to the surface I'm coating. I clean the applicator with very hot water and this has worked well except I went to use it a few weeks ago and could get the tin to pressurise

i mix in around 5% white spirit, mix that in using a hand held blender, then into a Sealey SG18 gun don't forget waxoyl is flammable
