i have a 1977 mk2 escort ghia and putting a carbed zetec in this year. I'm wondering what break servo an master cylinder options were available.. I'm running the standard servo tower but will obviously have to move it..
I don't really want to go bias pedal box as had bad experiences with them.
remote servo is the other option, how have you fitted yours? pic's plz
also i have seen a pic of a escort with the servo and tower moved down by at least 8 inches under some 40's, i cant find the pic again but was wondering if anyone had seen or done anything like this. The pot does have to be above all the lines tho Right? pics plz guys or even a point in the right direction of someone to talk to.... any help? Thanks shaun

go bias pedal box must be plenty of other escorts out there who've got pedal boxes working well? if not then can't you just cut and shut the tower and run a remote servo like the cortinas?

wait till you have the engine in and then see if you can pack the top mounts of the servo tower to angle it downwards by enough to clear, if not then a remote servo is your answer, i used to run all mine without servos, the car is so light you don't have to have one and the pedal feel is better.

I don't know exactly how it's done, but i've seen cars with a really long tower that extends to the front of bay, so the servo and M/C clear the carbs. Here's a picture of the bay of SeventyNine's amazing mk2 which shows what i mean - Build thread here - retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=36341&page=1Hope that helps. ps I also run my mk1 (which is a daily, not a weekend car) without a servo and don't have any problems at all.

^^^^ That looks like the standerd ghia/RS servo tower to me. There not the best bit of kit in std form anyway because they have a habit of bending under heavy breaking. On my 1360 mk2 I used the std master cyl (no servo) with 2.8 capri calapers and vented discs with no probs, on the mk2 i am bulding at the moment i have got a bias pedel box . I can recomend Arrow auto engineering if you want a qualty one there sirvice was spot on.

wow, thanks for all the replies... i wrote this on a well known ford forum at the same time and not one comment.... that escort is beautiful!!!! thats like the tower i'm running, i dnt think i'll get the carbs over it tho without bending it down, which may be a idea. How far could you go b4 a problem with the master cylinder cup? i have vented discs and planning on putting them on with spaced out m16's :-) Thanks orion1600e. how much difference does it make without a servo? just asking as my gf drives it sometimes (i kno :-() and want her to be able to brake properly...

When you get sorted, fit mk2 granny pads in it, they are squarer and put more pad at the outer edge of the disc which will improve the brakes a bit.

mk2 grannys have the same M16 caliper just about every other ford car of that era had, 2.8 ones spaced out like 2.8 capri ones to fit over the vented discs, ford "improved" the braking for the extra weight by fitting a massive servo and the different shape pads.

The 2.8i vented ones are larger you'll need to change the caliper to the larger ones as well, only the smaller engine grannys use the small M16 caliper (2.0 and some 2.3) diesel and 2.8 carb use the larger calipers with non vented discs (same as cortina P100), injection are the larger with vents, they all bolt on the same though, the larger ones are what i run on me cortinas more pad = more braking just as popup says a usefull mod needing no master cylinder mods
