I hate lots of separate threads for the same event,... but its my forum so I can break my own rules
THIS YEAR :
Firstly I'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to all those that made the effort to go to the show, even if you were on the RR stand or not. CaRS is the only show like it in the UK at the moment and the more people that make the effort to come, the more we can keep the scene alive.
I'd like to say a massive Thank You to everyone that was on the stand at the show, all the regular chatters as well as those that post irregularly, it was defiantly the best stand at the show, and it was all of you that made it possible! Thank you for your time and effort in going to the show.
Individual thanks have to begin with Rmad, who not only went above and beyond the call of duty on Saturday helping me do bad things to the Sunny, but also was a huge help when we arrived at the show, we managed to draw a semi circle of cars from opposite ends, and it met in the middle!! (skillz!)
Thanks also to Scrapingscrap for bringing Roger, who was an EXCELLENT Official Stand-In Support Bus... and if Abi is after racing next year I think it would make a great Official Support Bus! ...
Hats off to LordBongo and Mr B. for making the trip from overseas! Sterling work gentlemen.
I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to everyone, but I got to meet a fair few people, mainly when moving cars around in the morning. It was great to see some of the newly finished cars, like Racer's Toyota and Stuy's Sapporo, along with cars that have their roots on the forum, iRocco's Rocco looking good in the flesh, as well as those cars that have become scene folk law already, Df's Cossy-Dolly and Rmad's Cressida both spring to mind.
Each car on the stand mattered because it showed the diversity and inclusiveness of the forum, so thank you again for making the effort.
My hero of the day was Will for having just passed his driving test and then taking his Cinq up the strip! Out there doing it, rather than just talking about it!!
NEXT YEAR :
The stand is almost a victim of its own success and has become a bit of an animal to organise. What I'm planning to do for next years show (assuming it happens) is to get 4 or 5 separate stands for each region, but have them all located together. The CaRS organisers this year were good enough to honour the request to put us next to our friends at the Datsun Owners Club. Beyond the 4 or 5 regionals there will be a kind of best of the best central RR stand with our stand out cars on it. This should mean that we can divide out organisation for the event and no one ends up having to deal with the 80+ tickets + camping + car passes that I had this year.
It would also be good if all those going down the strip could all go at one time, so we could have a kind of RR-Run off and everyone can go and support from the bank at the same time
ANNOUNCEMENTS :
For those that missed the announcements they went a little something like this :
First part : New forum code is in test at the moment, there will be a more public test within a month. I predict an eventual full 100% working roll out in August or very early September (depending on number of bugs etc.)
Second part : As of September there will be a new online magazine for the worldwide Retro scene. It is being put together by Bryn and myself along with other professional Journalists and photographers. It will reflect the true world wide Retro scene. A preview website is almost ready to launch where you can sign up for news updates about the release as well as being able to download lovely desktop wallpaper. I'll make a full announcement when the site goes live.
The show proved that the scene is moving forwards, the future is looking good folks. Heres looking forward to 2007!
