You wont see much retro stuff over here unless you head to Terenure, Dublin on Sunday.
I'll be there in the Mini.

I'm in Galway. Big show on in Terenure in Dublin this Sunday, going to go in the Fiat. Was over in Ireland myself over the weekend... I think I spotted your 850 in a Petrol station - I was being given a lift back to Dublin airport & was travelling on the 'old Dublin road' just south of the town Mullengar [sp] If it was your car it was certainly very shiney Saw a few retros on the M4 including a transporter lorry with about 5-6 Austin/Morris 1100/1300s & a Wolsley on it Also a very nice black UK plated Dolomite with 'S' detailed silver stripes (maybe some kind of factory special edition) It seems that the Irish are a little less sentimental about their cars - and there does seem to be fewer retros to be seen on a daily basis, out & about The mate who we were visiting, drives a MK2 89 Golf GTi - which is considered ancient by his friends ;D

What time did you see the 850?, I stopped for juice on the way home from Dublin at town called Kinnegad just off a roundabout between 6 and 7. The 1100s on the Transporter all belong to the same guy, and the dolomite is a ltd edition 1500 , he has the sales brochures etc for it
The reason for so little old stuff in everday use is firstly a government scappage scheme about 10 years ago, the amount of roadworthy stuff scrapped was criminal, also Ireland had no NCT (MOT) until 2000 so cars were literally driven into the ground.

Shame, if it had been just me driving I would have stopped & said Hi Did you take any pictures from the event? Would be nice to see them. Was there many modified retros or was it mainly stock 'classics'? Shame to hear about the fate of many old cars in Ireland - I can remember my mate telling me about the introduction of the NCT. Funny it was a weekend of bizarre coincidences - I also bumped into a guy that we had spoken to at CaRS in Dublin airport (DarrenW; remember the guy who borrowed Polly & Judgies Knife to cut down some beer cans to use as firelights?) Small world!
