Everything is coming together slowly and I made some little progress on the new set up. Since it was a quite productive day, I'd like to share some more things with you guys. The broken bumper is gone to a boat builder. He's gonna fix and strengthen it. No pictures yet, but I hope to get it back next week. Finally I got clear lenses for my turn signals. It took me more than one year to get hold of some. In combination with a chromed bulb it's gonna look gorgeous. Almost all bits and pieces for the new front axle have arrived. Some parts will be powder coated next week. Can't wait to start the rebuild. Furthermore I tested 3 colours for a new paintjob. The camera had a tough job to get the colours right. It's a Lagoon Green, Bright Orange and Pool Blue. After long thoughts and discussions the favourite version is chosen. Maybe I can make the Mini hood part of the bodywork … ;D

I like where you're going with this....I think Gulf colours always look great on a Porsche. All those parts must be costing you loads.

Thanks for the kind words. Haha, yes, in the end the Mini hood looked accidentally like the Gulf paintjob. This wasn't intended though. It's not gonna be Gulf in the end, but hopefully not less amazing. This 944 looks spot on. I wish I could afford a Turbo front. But I rather spend my money on parts which are a technical improvement. When I'm finished I can't sell this car anymore, because I'm afraid no one will understand the amount of work and passion put into it.

Just reading this thread shows how much work and passion you are putting into this Porsche. I wish I could find some motivation to fix mine.

Not much of an update. Just drove to the workshop to check if power is back on. It is, so I can start to refurbish the wishbones and other bits and pieces. In between I took off the rubber spoiler, since it was shrunken und out of shape. Bought another big rubber thingy already, but I quite like it without it. Maybe I'll keep it this way. 944 script has got to go and maybe I should lose the black rubber part at the bumper as well.

So, hurried up with my office work and spent some time in the workshop. Only a little progress though, but at least there's something finished. Today I picked up these wheel arches. I might need them in the future, since I wanna use wider wheels. About 2" wider, to be precise. They will need some treatment to fit. But this will happen much later during this (damn slow) build. As mentioned, I got my bumper back. Looks like work in progress now but it's almost finished. Only a little sanding needed, some filler and it's done. Test fitted the white indicators again. Love the much cleaner look. And yes, there's something finished. Something quite tiny though, but finished. The connection rods between wishbone and stabilizer are ready to be used. Added a stainless steel nut and washer, that's it. Since I'm still undecided which colour it'll be, I was playing around with some stuff. Maybe I should go for the Harlekin look from VW? :eyebrows

Today I cleaned all the bits and pieces to be ready next week. Furthermore I assembled the suspension strut. Still not on its wheels, but I'm getting closer finally. I'm already afraid, I want some real coilovers in the near future. These things are damn expensive for this car. (Arround $ 2,300.) While redrilling the holes for the splint pins in the stabilizer I wasted a couple of drillers. Maybe I should learn to be more patient.

Today I just wanted to paint stuff like the wishbones, dust covers and some more pieces with POR15. But it dried pretty fast (didn't remember that) so I couldn't resist to finish a little more. Now the passenger's side is almost ready. Can't wait to see if it really gets lower or I just burnt some money by not buying the H&R coilovers. Sorry for the blurry photos, there will be some better images coming up, when I finish the front.

Oh, and now the break calipers look like curse word. But I need some things left to improve at a later point of this build. I really wanna have better break calipers and need to find out what else fits.

That looks great, nice work . As for the caliper upgrade the 944 kit is a bolt on upgrade as you probably know but it will mean loosing those wheels. I would get it rolling and use as is until you feel you need more. I take it its still running the 2 litre lump. the brakes you have should be sufficient with the disc and pad upgrade. Then when you get bored ls1 conversion and turbo brake and rear beam conversion

Haha, I don't want to do the 5-bolt conversion. Especially since I'm on the hunt for even more extreme wheels with 4x108. Maybe there's some Audi/VW stuff that fits but no one ever tried or just never mentioned somewhere in the web. But this is much later on the list.

Excellent stuff, are you not tempted to convert the front legs to adjustable coilover the insert type strut makes it so easy?
Anyway keep us updated I suspect this is going to turn out to be a killer car!

I am tempted, indeed. But the H&R coilovers are about € 1,8K. And I can't afford that right now. The KAW set up was not even € 400. So I keep that for a while, maybe I'm gonna lose a coil, need to see it on wheels first.

This morning I found the time to finish the front suspension. So both sides are done and all my doubts were justified. I built myself an off-road car. Bloody hell, that wasn't the plan. Sure, it'll all come down a little more, but never the promised 50 mm. It seems like there'll be more raw engineering skills needed to fix that. Anyway, here are some photos. Passenger's side. Driver's side. Inside. Still, I can't afford the H&R coilovers right now, I'm sure this would have worked much better. But I'll find a way to get that thing lower.

When you say it has a Porsche 924 body kit, how hard/expensive are they to source and fit? I assume they come as wider rear panels you attach and filler and blend into the exisiting panel work etc? I'm really tempted by a 944 body kit for my 924

When you say it has a Porsche 924 body kit, how hard/expensive are they to source and fit? I assume they come as wider rear panels you attach and filler and blend into the exisiting panel work etc? I'm really tempted by a 944 body kit for my 924 The fitted kit is a historic one. So unfortunately I have no facts about that, since I bought the car like on the pics. I've heard some people talking about these kits and almost everybody gave up mounting them. The fitment seems to be poor, though mine looks damn good. But I have no clue how much work it was. The frontwings are completely replaced, the rear fenders are cut and then widened with the bodykit. That's almost all I know. Sorry, would like to help you much more.

Peugeot fitment wheels are the best option as the offset isnt far off and they are 4x108. If you can find a set from a pugeot dimma then they can bolt straight on with a set of spigot rings. Have you had a look at 924.org the american 924 forum? there's a lot of guys on there with tuned 924's. Apparently theres a lot of vag engines that will bolt straight up to the torque tube but most require clutch work. There are a few decent threads on arb upgrades for the rear suspension and brake upgrades so that would be a good place to look.
As for the kit the front end is easy as they come I had the wings off my 924 a couple of times and its just a bolt on bolt off job as for the rears though in order to run the wider wheels with the 924 gt or 944 kit you do have to cut the arches and make new lips or they will foul the arches unless its running pretty high. But the truth is fitting the 944 kit is pointless as it takes a lot of work and money to make your car look like something you can buy relatively cheaply. Also unless your buying 944 rear quarters and cutting off your old ones and fitting new 944 ones (What I think the previous owner of this has done) then blending in a stick on set would be a nightmare to get right. Thats why most people go for the gt kit on the 924 as they are supposed to be stuck on the outside.

Today I was messing around a little. The driver's side plastic housing is broken, a good reason to test my idea. Still needs some improvement but this is gonna look great in the end. Oh, and I cut 2 coils off the original springs. It's teasing, I know, but I think the new shocks are too long. The spring was quite loose while mounting everything and it's still not really low. KAW is gonna answer me tomorrow I guess. Patience is definitely not my cup of tea.

Finally something new happened with this project. I bought a second hand suspension for a Golf 1 very cheap, since some Americans figured out, they might fit as well. Just for testing if it really works. And it does. So here we are with a -40 mm set up and I just ordered some brand new coilovers with up to -90 mm. It's gonna be seriously slammed quite soon.
