So, what do you do if you don't have a lift or pit and want to work underneath your car  This is my solution;  What you got .............? |

I drive the camper up the small wall beside my mums house lifts the van enough that i can sit under neat it but ain't safe van is 2.5ton the wall is only single block and as started to sink

good old ramp i have a set but the van wheels are to wide and i have no clue what wight they can take

A school-spec chair does the job nicely.  More seriously, A forklift does nicely for me too -  in conjunction with an old seatbelt that time! |

I never throw old steel wheels with balloon tyres away . I have about a dozen now and they make perfect axle stands with no chance of the car falling off or damaging the floor.

I use a jack. I couldn't get it any higher as the backend bottomed out. I've got a pair of lorry axle stands so just need another pair to get it nicely off the ground  |

Trolley jack and stands for me too, although my jack is puny compared to 30psi's effort! I jack the car up to full height of the jack, which just gets me to the collapsed height of my stands. Then I stack solid timber sleepers on top of the jack and lift a second time. Perfect for VW engine swaps.  Oh, and by the way, the jack is rated to 2 tonnes and the stands are 3 tonnes each so I don't think a Bug will give them too much trouble.   |

i'm in the same camp as bruce... got a vehicle i can sit underneath - just a pain fi i do need it off the ground as I don't have anything big enough to reach, so a series of old paving slabs and the bottle jack or trolley jack desperatly need some big axle stands tho and I'm 6'4"  |

I've used a JCB and a strop through the front window and sunroof to remove the handbrake cable from a vaux Carlton.
But normally it's me scrabbling around on my back getting hot welding splatter in my bellybutton. It felt like it went inside me.......
