Just back this afternoon from a holiday to California and then to Vegas.... Whilst in Vegas I bought a Copy of Hot Rod magazine and they were running an article about the Hertz Shelby Mustang that were going to be available end of June. One quick call to Hertz Las Vegas, and I got a "how did you know that we had one, they are not meant to be available to rent... Told them the story I was on Vacation from Scotland and wanted to hire one of the cars for a day.. Whaddya know they said no problem, gave me a reduced rate and it was meant to be 75 miles a day and then 39 cents a mile after that, but they waived the charge. Picked the car up from McCarran Airport... The car never even had it's Number plates fitted, but in the US you have 30 days grace on new cars... 4.6 Litre V8, breathed on by Shelby Automotive of Las Vegas... 325 BHP spitting out the back wheels, and they disabled the traction control Some bodywork done and loads of ford racing parts all over the car, lowered and stiffened suspension, ford racing air filter, strut brace and a sports exhaust system.. It sounded amazing... Anyhoo here are some pics of our drive from Las Vegas via Hoover Dam onto the Grand Canyon...

Nice, very very nice just happen to see one of these in black outside my work the other day, hard as nails! Hope you got the full use out of it ;D It does look hard as nails. ;D Sounds the business too... Yeah don't worry we got good use out of it, the Hertz guy positively encouraged me to take it out and rag the off it. Not one to dissapoint I left a number 11 in rubber outside the retal place. the car would pull and pull at stoopid MPH, obviously on private roads.... One of my favourite pics.... Look how straight the road is...

Yeah the young Manager guy, who was about 17, knew nothing about the old rent a racers and was more into new stuff, but a cool guy none the less...
I was actually surprised at the cars you could rent from Hertz, there were boring Chevys (Daewoooooooooo's) but they also had Audi RS4's and the hire car that we had for the 1st week of our holiday. Chrysler 300c Hemi's. 5.7 litre 375 BHP and went like wibblepoo off a slippery shovel.

OOOOF! I LOVE the new Mustangs, despite what some folks think. Much better than the 80s and 90s "Mustangs".

shoulda drove to new york and put it in a box - road trip heaven ;D D'ya know, I said to my missus when we were in a roadside cafe, "I have never though of stealing anything.....BUT... I considered it for more than a second.... ;D" We done over 700 miles the day we hire the Stang, and driving up and down The Strip in Las Vegas was brilliant. Because of the traffic and the length of the strip it takes about an hour to drive it, and the amount of people taking pictures of the car and waving at us was amazing. I am sitting here totally doomed out that we are home and wishing more than anything that we were back in the US and would move there in a heartbeat...Missus aint so keen though.... Need to post up the pics of the Hot Rod Dealership that we visited in Dublin, Oakland.... One of my faves...

those rear wheels need more dish though - what were ford thinking? They were thinking that by careful consideration of the scrub radius maximum agility of the rear suspension can be maintained with lower spring rates to allow good handling and road holding characteristics with minimal suspension thump and associated ride harshness.

Thats lovely. I'm off to the SEMA show in Las Vegas in November to promote my custom business and hopefully make some contacts. Then off to L.A to visit Boyd Coddingtons and some other builders. Thats the car i was planning on renting while i was there.
