Anyone had any wheels rechromed? I've seen a set perfect for the Fury (when it finally gets back on the road) and they are cheap, the right size and fitment, but the chrome is fubar on the rims (centres are OK and are alloy).
I'm sure I heard long time back that these kind of wheels can't be rechromed. But then theres a lot of old wifes tales about this sort of thing.
The rims can't be split from the centres BTW
Could rechrome the whole lot as one I guess? Any recommends on where and for how much?
I know Derby Platers and I know thier work is 10/10 but you get what you pay for and I can't afford that right now...

Annoyingly, I've often found that things like this are uneconomically expensive, to the point that buying new is usually far cheaper! I was looking into getting a nice old sports steering wheel re-wrapped. The cost was several hundred dollars, and the labour cost was so high that it was irrelevant whether I chose leather or vinyl. In the end I tracked down another old used wheel in better condition. Maybe you could buy new chrome wheels from the states? Or perhaps paint these ones silver?

I was thinking painting the rims silver may be "FTW". I can get these cheap enough, maybe I can buy a new set when money is not so tight.
However I like to reuse the old not just chuck it away. Its part of why I do what I do

chroming might be £££ but maybe worth giving this a shot? www.aerocoat.net/ chrome effect powdercoat, looks pretty close to chrome from what I've seen, no ideas on price tho silver might look cool too tho

Yeah, regular powder coat struck me as a possibility. Cheers for that link I'll ask them...

Can heartily recommend Aerocoat, there work is top notch. I've just had a Chevy grille done here.... www.chromeeffects.co.uk/ well chuffed. 90% of people wouldn't know it wasn't chrome. If the wheels are cheap enough, get them and think about how you're going to recondition them later. I'm with you on saving stuff.

I can recommend chrome powder coat. It's arguably a better cosmetically maintainable finish too.
