I've played with Volvo and their lovely tractor motors for many years, but this matter concerns French engines in said swedish cars. I have a nice Volvo 780 Bertone, with the 2.8 litre PRV V6. I love the car, I picture it as a 633cs BMW for those with more discerning (read: more bizzare) taste.
Here's the problem though- it is slow. Very very slow.
The original plan was to build a franken-turbo PRV, with 3.2 litres, forged pistons and rods, and too much boost. This is BY FAR the most expensive option, and is overkill for what I want to do with the car.
I want a car that demonstrates what the 780 could have done, had Volvo kept at developing their version of the V6. Think of a competitor to the 635csi, or the Maserati Biturbo. I'm picturing a small 2.5 litre PRV from a Renault 25, run by their factory management, and boosted to around 230hp.
My understanding is that the R25T cylinders, pistons, and rods should swap to the B280f that I have in the car now, and from there its just a matter of wiring up the management.
Here are my questions-
1. I understand that the PRV has weakish rods and pistons. Is the PRV from the 25 Turbo reliable at those power levels?
2. Are there Renault resources that I haven't found, that might be able to shed some light on the Turbo's engine management? I'd ideally like a factory-ish solution to force feeding a PRV.
Thanks for any insight, and if I can't find a good reason to keep the PRV, I'll dump it in favor of a B230ft that's sitting in my garage.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
