Armour audio (a trade distributor) have just started bringing them over here, specs look good, but the price is/was too when looked at them.

Wow, if you are a fan of the shiny store that does look kind of cool.
A few years back, Parrot has something similar but nowhere near as integrated, it was a standard face off stereo, but with no CD gubbins, just a cubby hole behind where you inserted your phone, and had an SD and USB slot, it could play tunes off the compatible phone, had a tuner and acted as a bluetooth, but that O car does look interesting if it works.

Speaking of Parrot, Looks like they are having another go. Just stick in a GiffGaff sim, top up £10 goodybag everymonth, and you are away, unlimited texts and 3G data for your smartstereo. |

I had the fusion offering was a full ipod dock with face off was an awesome piece of kit until some actors kicked it!! been on the lookout for a good used example.
still fetch around £180 nos

Despite it being in a holder, your finger is touching your phone, so you are still liable to 3 points and £60 fine.
If they were a bit cheaper (read: less than half the price) I'd consider giving one a punt, But for what is basically a fancy mount, an FM radio and a cheap amplifier £240 is crazy money. You still have to use itunes to choose the tracks and skip stuff anyway, which is well fiddly when driving.

£240? Not seen any pricing. It looks cute though. I like the Parrot Astroid, but as Cobblers says, interface is everything in a car, it has to be simple.
Theres lots of headunits which can control and charge an iPod via a USB type lead.

I picked up a Sony CD head unit with iPod interface and remote control for £90 brand new inc P&P from www.Caraudiodirect.co.uk 18 months ago what does this do that that didn't? If it does the same but much better then fair comment. Otherwise Beat do a mechless headunit with iPod control for £50 or so... But this O-car thing looks pretty. Mind you I was a the Asian Electronics Expo in April and there were precisely 43,542 different companies making head units like this across China - USB, bluetooth, iPod, and all that. Some of them were real pretty too. |

For skinflints light me, I just bought an iphone dock off ebay for about £6 quid.
It has an IR remote control and audio out on the dock, which I've connected to aux in on the head unit. For another few quid I could hook a charger up, too.
When I get in the car I slot the phone into the dock in the center console and music comes through the car speakers, controlled by the remote control.
For an idea of the other costs, the head unit is a 10 year old pioneer jobbie (anything with cd changer compatibility will do) and the aux in lead cost £3.

Jimmy Carr got off a little while ago because he was using his phone as a dictaphone (which still involved pressing buttons, holding it up to his face, and talking-the law is a donkey). Will this thing play 78's? |
