Delicious, nice to see one that's avoided the horrid ford V4 engine swap back in the day...
Mind you that would be a fine excuse to drop in a Mazda turbo rotary!
keep us updated I absolutely love these, they must have looked like a spaceship in 1967 when it came out, without the nice chrome bumpers and some of the finer detailing it could pass for something made 20 years later..
Good luck!

No plans on mods - I don't personally like modified cars, particularly classics, unless it's been part of rescuing or working around a basket case, but I went and had a quick tinker whilst grabbing a cup of tea and:... (There's supposed to be a video here of it running, but I can't embed Facebook video and CBA putting such a boring thing on YouTube). ![](http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/228067_10150307126062586_544157585_9757133_5890370_n.jpg) ![](http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/248882_10150307126472586_544157585_9757136_5781627_n.jpg) It might, however, get a Mazda transplant. RX8 four-port. Then it'd need rather a lot of uprating, if not visible modification, not least to house the oil coolers and electronics. Reckon it could be quite a sleeper if the gearbox could handle it! Is it is though, the plan is to get it nice and straight.

Modified cars are rarely done to my tastes for real-world use ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I like suspension travel; lowering destroys the dynamics and comfort of many cars and I've never understood why people get a daily driver then chop bits out of the springs, it must make them awful to drive (it has done in the cars I've had like that). The baby Fuchs are already quite polished ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Nothing makes me sadder than seeing a thread where a beautiful, pristine and frequently cherished and scarce run of the mill car, which would otherwise never get any recognition as a classic, survives 20-30 years then gets discovered by an enthusiast only to - rather than being restored to former glory - have the holes where bumpers fitted welded up, the pristine 30-year old arches that would have rotted away on so many examples rolled and mauled to clear butchered springs. Usually whilst the mint, undamaged doorcards get holes chopped in them for speakers. It's not that I don't always like the result, it's that if you're going to do that, you may as well start with one that needed new arches, had mangled door cars, and broken suspension. I've owned a straight-six Manta and a roof chopped Renault 5 and all sorts of other things; I also accept that modern cars must be thoroughly depressing for anyone wanting to modify them. But it's simply not my taste to instantly look at an old car and go "that needs changing, usually in a mildly destructive and non-reversible way".

nice car. The company my dad works for used to polish and anodise those wheels. Not sure how many they did and over what age, but he had a couple tucked away in the stores that were rejects from processing (minor issues on the rims).

keep us updated I absolutely love these, they must have looked like a spaceship in 1967 when it came out, without the nice chrome bumpers and some of the finer detailing it could pass for something made 20 years later.. Good luck! If I were any good at Photoshoppery, I'd have a go at making a design with larger, skirted bumpers, black in place of stainless trim and perhaps start with the rare larger-light very late model... think Montego-esque bumpers. And maybe a Tickford Capri style grille panel (but not an actual Capri panel, just that style)... They say it's a futuristic shape but that sculpt of the rear flank - with the light and the beltline - is an insanely classical German architectural form. That alone, debaged, would make me think "Germany". Going to sort out the cooling issues to make sure it's a runner, then get onto searching for wings. It's a long, slow project this, not a rapid-fire "look, a banger! Look, MOTd!, Look, TIDY!" thing ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

But it's simply not my taste to instantly look at an old car and go "that needs changing, usually in a mildly destructive and non-reversible way". Firstly, this forum must drive you nuts if you don't like moddified cars? As for lowering a car killing It's 'dynamics' and comfort, you should try driving a properly sorted lowered car rather than some rubbish 80's chopped up thing. My cars drive and handle far better since sorting the ride height replacing the tyres etc.. Most cars that you will see in this place are the 'run of the mill' motors of the last 40 years, and as such were built with a huge variety of owners in mind. The dynamics are therefore a trade off in many cases. My k70 for instance handles fantasticly since it was dropped. Before the uprated adjustable coilover shocks the car had so much understeer it was laughable. I feel the (nothing makes you feel sadder) comment is a little strange to say the least. You do know most on here modify their cars don't you? And not in the way you would think, I for one only add period correct parts to my cars where and when I can. I have never and will never chop chunks out of any cars interior for speakers or anything else. You seem to think people on here go around buying mint classic cars and chop them up,for some reason. Yes you would buy the very best vehicle you could so you can start with a good base car. I resent the fact you think we must all be chavs with plastic body kits screwed to the sides of our XR3's. (no insult intended) ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) It may simply not be your taste to Destroy cars in a non-reversible way as you put it, but neither is that what most of the forum want to do either. The fact that people are saving, changing, using and enjoying old car is enough for me. Good luck with the ro80 build. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Whoa, don't go to extremes in how you interpret what I'm thinking. I see a LOAD of inspirational, fantastic work done - nearly everyone's threads here regardless of what they're doing leaves me feeling nothing other than admiration. Yes, sometimes I see stuff that makes me cringe - such as the low miles, mint Derby that I read had to have the arches "Ghetto rolled" due to the height of the suspension, and what appeared to be a really tidy Monza being systematically destroyed to make a track weapon; they're massively outweighed by the sheer epic efforts of people making either beautifully engineered and executed modifications OR incredible achievements of recovery and restoration. And yeah, what with 136 cars to my history plus (I have no idea how many) driven, I probably should try a properly sorted lowered car. It's unlikely that I'd have done so, after all ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I didn't mention anything you did to your cars personally. I just get tired of the first thing anyone says when anything interesting and standard appears is "hit it with the stick". And I don't think anyone's a chav with screwed on bodykits; tbh I feel vaguely nostalgic when I see a splash of Porsche Mint Green and a hint of wide arches (and I hated that stuff in the early '90s). Trust me, nothing anyone ever does do a car on here will surpass some of the things I've done in the past that killed off now rare classics, and nothing anyone does that I read will overtake my sheer frustration at the bloke who stripped that Opel Diplomat. Y'all are safe. I just don't want to hit MY car with a lowering stick, a rolled arches stick, or any other sort of sticks other than the "no more rust and some nice paint" stick. Besides, I already said that if the engine is toast, I'm going Mazda. I'd expect it to be reversible though!
