Long story, but I am tempted to try and get a 250 MZ running that we have lying around. My dad took it off the road in 1994 and its not ran since then. Any methods or anything recommended to get it going again? I'm guessing going and trying to start it now would A/ be bad for the engine B/ be wholly un-successful?
It is a two-stroke if that makes any difference...

I think if it turns over on the kick start Whip the plug out and drop a slug of two stroke oil and petrol in with the piston at TDC - leave overnight Kick it over with the plug out to exit the residue Empty the float bowl to get rid of the jelly that was once petrol Fresh jungle juice in the tank and a new plug Prod away - if there is spark fuel and air she'll run - two strokes are very simple ;D

give it a go, my old 100cc honda 2 stroker when it refused to start i whipped plug out and cleaned it, seemed to keep it happy carried the plug tool around everywhere. can be done i'm sure, going by bo11ox's thread some fresh petroleum may be an advantage.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Check it does in fact turn over Drain the fuel from the tank and float bowl, probably need to remove and flush both and clean the carb with "Carb cleaner" Clean air filter Clean or change Plug Fill with freshly mixed 2 stroke with decent oil Kick it over It should start If it doesnt, take can of easy start, open the throttle and squirt through the carb, soak the Air filter with it as well Then Kick Brutal but effective Janes Trials bike had stood for over a year with fuel in it, fuel jellified in teh carb so cleaned that out and it started first kick on the year old fuel As has been said...... very simple strokers..... only 3 moving parts after all ;D

Don't fancy yours much..... REMEMBER! Always wear white bell-bottoms when motorcycling. They are by far the best choice of trouser!

Many moons ago my mate had an MZ. It was a tidy example and fully roadworthy but back then utterly undesirable. When he wanted rid of it he put it outside our place with a sign inviting anyone who wanted it to take it away free of charge. There were no takers initially but after several days had passed it finally dissapeared. We found in a hedge down the end of the road ;D

The content of this picture is too funny to warrant a silly comment here. its one like this. my dad used it. my mother and father rode to Poland and Czech on it in 1994. its blue, and it'd be a cool bike to graduate from my fake MZ Also, its a classic so should be able to get it onto my dad's policy and just give him some dosh
