alrite guys I wonder if anyone in the Rotherham South yorkshire area would be able to come to my house and fit a rear wheel bearing on my B3 Passat estate?? On my way back from picking up some parts to paint last night my rear left hand wheel bearing (as far as I know its the bearing) gave up, it was a definate brown trouser moment, had to get it recovered back to my house but now i'm pretty stuck as I cant get it to a garage and mobile mechanics want silly prices. Any help gratefully appreciated ![](http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz322/Psycho-Slacker/IMG_2170a.jpg)

If you can get the part to you, have a few basic tools, some grease and a jack, VW wheelbearings are incredibly easy to do. Last bearing 'kit' I bought came to about a tenner and took minutes to fit to our B4 Passat.

Most FWD cars have a bolt-on stub axle at the rear. Might be worth a trip to a breakers yard to grab a stub, hub and nut and then swap it over with a new bearing. Here's an ebay auction for a B3 rear stub axle. Unfortunately it's in the states, but it shows that it's a fairly simple bolt-on thing: cgi.ebay.co.uk/300334915594

Hi mate. I'm quite local to you and can help but if you took stub axle off yourself I'm sure you also can put it back together. Anyway if you struglin with new stub try local breakers. I'm pretty sure golfs/ventos some polos have same.
Cheers Paul

the thing I think i'yll struggle with is bleeding the brakes back up if I need to take the back plate off to remove the stub The chances are that you can get the baclplate out of the way without disconnecting the brake pipe - take the hub and drum off and the backplate should follow - assuming that the hose connects straight to the wheel cylinder. If it has a rigid pipe then yes, you'll have to bleed it. Just don't let it dangle by the hose - tie it up out of the way with wire or string.
