Hi everyone,
Well, i need to get the engine out of my escort (1300 xflow). But i have no engine crane??
I will probably need to do it on my own, so just lifting it out would be difficult?
I need ideas?
Thanks Guy

If you can take the head off it will be more manageable. I put the engine in my escort fully built and attatched to the gearbox on my own, just using a scissor jack and a length of rope! It might suprise you how much lighter they are in reality than you think they are. Is the head ally on a 1300 Xflow? Just watch your back is all

X-flow heads are cast iron, apart from the after market alloy ones now available. I think your main problem will be lifting it over the slam panel and into the hole. Once in there a jack could be used to position it but would be tricky. Best bet is just to pop down your local hire shop. I had to hire 1 once when mine broke and i was waiting for replacement. I think i only had it a day and it cost me about £20.

i got an engine hoist (for my 1300 polo engine + box, cos i'm a big girls blouse) from my local independant tool hire place, but HSS and everywhere big do them too.
Mine was £15 for a day, extra fiver for two days hire, and it could lift 500kgs. made it MUCH easier to do the work, especially if it's your first engine transplant as you can raise it up slowly and make sure there's no wires or hoses etc still attached.

remember that chains and hooks don't come with them (usually).... so call in at B&Q first, i got some decent welded chain rated to 400kg and three big D-connectors. and drain the oil out first, unlike me

Or as a cheap alternative to a chain use an old seat belt. Ive lifted whole cars with the stuff. Pop down the breakers and cut 1 out of an old dog and your away. In fact get all 4!

You won't do it by yourself but if you take the head and the other bits off, you and a mate will be able to lift it out. If Jonny69 and a puny mate can do it, you can do it ;D
