Morning all,
After failing to sell my astra on ebay i was gonna scrap it, but then i thought i could flog it for parts then scrap it, but i'm stuggling to find anyone who will pick it up, (i won't be looking for any cash for it), with anything but minor bit's missing, like the mirrors etc.
Does anyone know if scrappies are willing to collect a shell? Or is it just the nation wide scappy people that wont do it?
Also, has anyone done this, sold a car for parts on ebay, and is it worth it?
Cheers
Tom

There must be 20 different people advertising for ANY scrap cars/shells ect in my local paper each week.Have you tried yours? Scraps about £140 aton here so you should be expecting someone to come pick it up AND pay you some cash. The problem with the bigger firms is they`re recycling centres so have to recycle a certain % of the car, something they cant do if you`ve already sold the good bits on. The small local people/travellers will simply weigh it straight in.

Yes, i have had a few shells picked up, you wont get any money for them though.
What model astra is it because even when i broke up a few mk2 16v golfs, that took a long time to shift the bits and even then only the really good stuff went. One of them got dragged to the scrapper with the engine, glass, doors, boot, running gear etc, it isnt that easy to shift bits sometimes. I would just weigh it in to be honest unless it is a gte/gsi etc

no, it's just a 1.6 16v SXI mk4, nothing special.... hmmmm, might be easier to just cut my losses and weigh it in, already cost me more than it's worth in insurance and ebay fee's while it's been off the road

Yeah, just weigh it in, sorry, it would be a lot of bother for not a lot of reward really. If it has alloys then maybe think about getting them off and someone will just hi-ab it onto the truck.

put an advert on ovalchat, if it runs the banger lads will give you scrap money for it and collect it. your not far from warton either so you shouldn't have much of a problem shifting it

You should be able to break a MK4 Astra for more money than you would get for scrap.Have broken loads of cars up and made nice money on them. Why not strip the car of loads of bits/parts then box them up and sell them over the next few weeks/months.Then get the shell collected by a local traveller/scrap dealer.

had you been local we'd have took it away.....
Plenty of people look down on the scrap lads but we're here to make money as anyone else is its our livelyhood, trucks and diesel don't pay for themselves so if we paid for bare stripped shells we'd in essence do it for free.
if its still complete what do you want for it as we buy scrap if its complete or partially

When i scrapped my monza, the bloke turned up in a skip lorry, chained it up and hauled it off, didn;t care what condition it was in, seems nowadays scrappies are alot more fussy, if it goes on monday i'll be gettin 140 quid, for a car that runs, drives, 200 quids worth of brand new tires, alloys, cd player etc... just seems wrong, it's not worth much, but it's worth a damn site more than that... rubbish

Is it road legal? If so I'd be tempted to drive it onto the weighbridge of the local scrappy as you'll get more for it that way.
I've never failed to get money for scrapping a car despite having no engine, box and loads of other things missing. The only thing I've had to do is keep the things rolling.
If the ones round there don't pay anything for shells / partially stripped cars I'd be tempted to strip out all the alu and weigh that in separately, then let them take the shell for nowt.

You want to call a scrap recycling place that just crushes them. I get £140 for a car easily even though I get them picked up with a grabber lorry, AFTER taking off the wheels, cd players, cats, and anything that will sell. Unless you've promised the person coming on monday any of those bits specifically, get them off asap. Put it on some illegal steels as well, keep your alloys and tyres.

All you need to do is find a ELV authorised metal recycling place that is willing to lift with a grab truck. They charge a lifting fee but tbh it takes half an hour for them to do it and charge £40 as opposed to me taking three hours to get it onto a trailer and cart it over and use £20 in derv. I'd be surprised if the places over there didn't offer the same service.
