As the wife and kids were out this evening I had some fiddle time.
Got the car out the garage and got the timing light going to tune to 14degrees BTDC as recommended on most sites. Was at 10 before as it left the factory. Once I had it set and the cam sensor tightened final step was adjust the idle air bypass screw to bring back to 850rpm tickover. Had to turn nearly two full turns to bring down.
Took it out for test run and it's so much better at low revs. Still has a lot more guts over 4k but can actually pull out in front of traffic without needing to ride the clutch as before. Think the previous owner has in desperation been fiddling and tried to tweak the bypass like in an old carb system.
As it was sunny I took some photos:
And the interior. Due to the hassle of fitting the race buckets and concerns over a sore bum, I did the foamectomy on the drivers seat (http://mangocats.com/miata/seat.html) to make it more bucket like and refitted both seats sans carpet.
I'm liking it and may leave as is, or may delete the centre console. I pulled the speaker covers off the doors and found a pair of decent ish Fli 3 way speakers. I connected these up to the stereo and the sound quality with these and the headrest speakers is pretty good.
Used the Tom Tom to check the accuracy of the new MPH speedo and pretty much bob on, overeading by a few mph only.
Left to do:
Fix passenger window
Regas or remove the AC and compressor
Remove the MX5 chrome grill
Remove front bumper and lose the excess weight behind
Would like some strut braces for looks
chin spoiler
And or course maybe some lowering
Possible:
Delete centre console
Go for manual window conversion
Roll bar/cage
