Hi Ive just got a MK4 xr3i F-Reg in red (I know its not too retro, but it might be one day!!) which runs and drives fine and interior is nice but the sills and rear arches are a bit rotten, I was going to put a turbo lump in it and body kit but I'm not sure what to do?? So I'm looking for some idea's do I.....
1, Keep it and get it looking nice and keep it standard
2, Do I buy another MK4 escort that has no rust and swap everything over
3, Try and find a escort van and swap th bits over
4, Run out of idea's now!! What do you think? should I just sell it or swap it (for ANYTHING if any ones intrested??)
Its also come with some spares, Tailgate, bumpers, and a few other bits which will be available when I sort through it all
I maybe open to a swap or a deal with something, not sure what??? (does'nt have to be a car!)

Fold all the seats flat, remove the tailgate then park it in the corner of the workshop and place all your old junk in the back of it ;D ;D ;D
Only kidding. If you ask me theres point in going the turbo route as its been done to death and if you really want one just go buy an RS. I'd go for a 2litre zetec, standard bumpers, 13inch steels with trims and popular plus badges. For the finishing touch get it sprayed in that horrible washed out blue they all used to come in.

Problem with going down the turbo route is that people in the know will tell it apart from a real rs, as the xr3i has the black door tops and rear quater window surrounds. I agree with the rev. dick deluxe that its been done to death. Whack in a 2.0 zetec on 40's and youll have a nice sounding bark and roughly 170bhp but with no lag so you'll beat the turbo's off the light anyway. Just get the sump, oil pick-up pipe, water pump and oil pump from the 1.8/1.6 escort/fiesta zetec and modifiy the engine mount. Its a really simple conversion, weekends work. You will need the ignition module from a mk5 escort 1.4/1.6 carb aswell.

Fx it up standard or weigh it in I say, RS Turbo 'replica' sounds well yawn-worthy.

Yeah RST conversions are overdone. I'm starting to like the Mk4 Scort. I don't think bodywork mods on them work without looking too barryboy. If it was me I'd smoke around in it "as is" and pick up a cheap povo-spec, non-rusty Mk4 and chuck a Zetec in it

restore it to it's former glory (standard) with a 2ltr zetec.

XR3's look MINT
the 1990 sort of look is definatly going to be the next big thing. back onto big old TSW's, slammed with a 3" exhaust etc.

if your wanting to go turbo building a zetec turbo is the only way to go the cvh is to un reliable as a turbo unless you uprate most of the internals and the zvh route is a waste of money these days its much easier using the full zetec engine and you will get really big power and good reliability

Miny minty minters are starting to gain interest and attract good prices, slowly but surely. But if its too far gone then i don't think its worthy of a full resto. I'd find a nice estate or like you say, a van and fit all the running gear in that.

Let us have some pictures and see how bad it is, defo potential though, probs fast enough for now if engines healthy! I realise it may not add up to the power of a zetec or rst, specialized engines do a 1.9 CVH jobbie, just an idea. Mad idea, RWD it and stick summat crazy in. body work wise look outside the Ford scene, Max n paddy scene, or do it up standard with subtle tweeks, Pogs right though, non bonafide 'old skool' fords and non RS models are cheap enough right now, up to you...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
