Errr, I'm sure it's been discussed before, but can't for the life of me remember what the outcome was. Anywhoooo, do you wise people out there have any cheap and cunning alternatives to Dynamat ? Lightweight versions would also be great Have some related images as thanks;

Flashband is your friend. Available in various widths, it's dead easy to apply and works very well. So cheap you can afford to double up layers where you want for extra deadening and it's still a fraction of the cost of most mainstream sound deadening. I got mine for free from a friend, but a 12" roll...TEN METRES LONG is only £25. You'll only get a couple of 12" squares from Dynamat for that kind of money. Use a heatgun to get it to bond really well (making sure the surface is very clean, dry and grease free) and press it into place, then use a hard roller to really get it to bond while using a heatgun. Brilliant stuff! Some details of how I used it here: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=88011&page=10#1297450

I've just used an self adhesive tar based roofing/flashing material. Was about £25 for a large roll. I applied this to the inside of a roof panel that has had no insultation - it's not sound insulation but it has changed the character and vibration of the panel and thus lestened the boom. I've also put an exterior grade expandy foam into a couple of panels I'm sure an expert will be along shortly. Chris

Carpet underlay works well. I wouldn't worry about lightweight; you'll save about 1kg. If you want lightweight don't put it in at all ;D

Brown Bread is a product at least intended for automotive use which is cheaper than Dynamat.
As with all things you get what you pay for to a greater or lesser extent.
Lizardskin is a good spray on product.
I love those tube head units. They were about £450 +shipping from Japan +taxes when I looked at them years ago. Awesome.

That Panasonic head unit does make me feel all gooey inside, but the $1200 RRP does not I should probably add that this is not for gains in audio quality, but rather to reduce panel drumming and road noise in the Vitesse. I'm liking the sound of the laminate underlay as it's lightweight and I've got some kicking about. Not wanting to add weight if I can help it, as the cars going on a diet, but I don't want to go deaf every time I drive it

Pearl parts do a cheap sound deadening material, i have a pack in the yard, i'll grab a pic of the lable later, used it on all sorts of builds from campers to cars, heat it up so it'll take the shape of the panel (especialy true on swaged floors ect) and stick well, i think when i last bought it it was £15 for 10 sheets of 6 by 18 inch pads?

Does the flashbanding stuff weigh much? Also... how does it actually fix there? Does it just bond onto the panel once it's heated? In which case, how easy is it to get off again?!

Impressed with Brown Bread, would use it again.
I've done some ghetto soundproofing before and done a great job of creating various hidden water sponges.

pretty sure Dynamat, brown bread etc is worth every penny. My friend was keen on sound systems and dynamat'ed the boot, floor and roof, of his car. It made such a difference.
