yeh the b234 head on the 2.3 ford block is a popular conversion. its a fair bit of hassle still, not just a bolt on job...but still. makes sense if you want to keep the ford block and have a head that flows reasonably well.

Not sure if he's a FSOc member or not there is a modded green one on there, I'm gonna have to start paying attention to this Volvo kit!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

the volvo head on the turbo pinto block is apparently quite popular in the states, in the fox bodied mustangs too.. msvorinich.itgo.com/this chap was thinking of doing it but hasn't updated for a while, its quick enough anyway apparently... msvorinich.itgo.com/October_23.html

logical reasons for not doing a full conversion..... ford block goes straight in with no engine mount mods (supposedly handles 400hp) got the drive train and gear box all securly in easy power really i noticed a cartoon of the car in someones sig over on turbo bricks so asked for more information so he referred me to his sight then asked permission if i could post it up on a few sites at which he replyed of course but give me links so he can see the feedback, lets see if heel sign up ;D forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=72963related thread on turbo bricks

From the pics it looks like there's a lot of head work gone into making it marry up to the Ford block. Are the B23 and Ford 2.3 somehow related? It just seems amazing that they would be able to put them together at all! Really interesting stuff

Impressive stuff! A lot of work in that head conversion I bet... It brings to mind an old article in Mini World years ago about a guy who stuck a BMW Motorbike 16v head on a Mini A-series block

It's started the cogs in my head whirring, all this head swappage... A few years ago I looked into swapping the cylinder head on my Merc for a 16v 8-port one. I was only kind of musing over the idea, but I was hoping that Mercedes had used similar castings / diameters in later engine developments. Never really got much further with the idea than that, but what got me thinking was that for the 190 Cosworth, they basically took a 2.3 4-cylinder lump from the W123 and put a 16v head on it. What put me off was the chances of the head bolt holes, water and oil galleries and camshaft sprocket positions being anywhere near close enough to transplant. So I got a V8 instead (then left it in my parents garage in crates )

S'like I have drawings and dimensional information on how to fit a mirrored, or reversed, Sprint head to a Stag V8 block, giving a 32 valve V8.
It's reputedly been done once, giving 400BHP just like that, but the cranks are so weak on all the Stag's now that you'd need to get a new one made up to relish the benifits.
HRS had one taken out to 4.8 litres too once, god knows where they got the displacement from.

Surely that would be impossible to package the carbs and manifolding unless you truly did somhaow have one 'mirrored' head that was an exact negative of a proper one....?

Yes, it would have to be a one-off mirror casting, or, you could reverse one head, cut off the cam chain end of it, reweld it to the other end, ........(never thought about the reversing one properly though) When I looked into it it was about 5000 quid for a one off mirror casting ......and then have to be clever with intake systems etc Possible though!

'possible' in inverted commas... Bo1ox to that! Just stick a rover V8 in and be done with it! I know you stag boys love that!

Hey guys, it's my car. Thanks for all the feedback. All very good, but why not just use a YB? I don't have $5,000+ lying around to purchase and import a YB. The 2.3 bottom end is stouter, anyway. Not sure if he's a FSOc member or not there is a modded green one on there Yeah, I signed up for FSOC a while ago, but I haven't been posting much at all. I'm on about 10 other forums.. between that and working on ye olde Ford, I stay pretty busy. yeh the b234 head on the 2.3 ford block is a popular conversion. Not so much. It's a popular idea, but there aren't very many conversions underway. Like I said in the TurboBricks thread, I believe this is the third running conversion. I know of 5+ conversions in the works at the moment. You'll start to see a few more refined and technologically advanced 16V conversions in the upcoming months/years. The few who have their running so far (including myself) have kinda thrown them together, but there are a few guys who are really putting some work into the conversion - plotting every little detail and making it perfect. I can definitely appreciate that, but I just wanted to make the damn thing run before refining it. That is awesome, I can't find any word though, has he written owt about it or just put up the photos? Sorry, man.. that site is mainly just a host for all these pictures I post on forums - I've got some information in this thread: forum.merkurclub.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4823Thanks, Colin
