As most of us know, in Japan they like to drive these old Toyota CROWNs as taxis, and they still sell them new to this day despite there being quite a few model revisions.
It was something to do with taxi drivers being opposed to the new FWD cars (CROWNs stayed RWD but I think they moved them up to a higher price bracket or something), so Toyota continued to produce these old CROWNs. Something like that. The price was quite cheap and I would imagine them to be sloppy and gutless, but hey, they'd be a nice taxi.
Regardless, Toyota Techno Craft got to work in 2003 (I think)..... picking the 2.0 car with 5 speed manual box, they set out on a mission to create a special "limited run" special car.
OK, let's begin.....
First they added a supercharger to the 2.0L engine adding loads of torque. They also added an LSD, and strengthened the drivetrain to cope with the extra power.
They put in some Omori gauges so you can make sure it's all doing OK.
A good hit with the stick, aka special suspension parts to take it down 3cm.
Ripped out the horrible normal seats and put in these TRD Racing buckets!
And a sporty steering wheel to finish off the interior a bit.
A lovely finishing touch - Watanabe RS-8s with chunky Bridgestone Potenza tyres. Combined with a "lip" spoiler, chrome exhaust and a dark grille to add a subtle, sporty touch.
OK then, let's see what we've got.
From this.....
Into.....
HOW COOL?
