Hello, Quick question. Can anyone tell me the difference between a Corolla KE30 and a KP30, or the other variations please? Is a KP30 actually a Starlet and not a Corolla maybe? Basically I want to identify exactly what model the car in the pic below is, I think it's a KE30? I've done a bit of search on Google etc but all the different ones look quite similar to me, and the KE30's I find seem to be 4 doors mostly, and without the vents in the rear wings like this one. This is a '77 two door coupe type thing. Is this the same model as Racer86's car? By the way, Racer you have PM Thanks for any info Stu

I personally say that's a KE30, if you open the bonnet, it should say on the plate on the bulkhead & also as part of thre VIN, eg one of my Starlets starts: JTKP6000 making that a KP60. Also think the KP30's were earlier tha that-late 60's maybe? & a bit more square than the KE. Oh yeah, is it for sale? ? If so, let me know!!!!!!!!!!! I'd love a KE to add to my collection

Thanks for the info, I will have a look at the VIN plate to see what it says then. No, not for sale at the moment, bit of a 'barn find' and somebody else has first refusal...

Fair enough, if it does ever come up though, I would love a corolla to go with my Starlets, just so damn hard to find!

What do you think it's worth? Bearing in mind no tax or MOT and has been stood in a garage unused since 1986? All looks complete and in good order, 87k miles... interior is p1mp-tastic ;D

I have no idea, depends on how much work needs doing, as parts are VERY hard to get hold of now. I'd pay around £200 at a guess,as thats what I paid for a rare but rough starlet 'S'. Without seeing it though, Its not easy to judge

These Corollas are still popular in parts of the Southern Hemisphere, particularly in the Africa sub continent and Austrailia - if you could find a reliable source parts, they are still available. In Mauritius these Corollas are still popular.... Like any J-car, check inner wings, sills, rear and front suspension mounts, arches...hell..... check the whole thing with a magnet. This has serious potential. 4AGE potential.

Definitely a KE30 right there, it's a nice prefacelift one as well, they have the level bonnet line and the much nicer looking tail lights. Being a 2dr coupe it's uber desireable as well, a bit rarer than the sedans and fastbacks (KE35). Get it I say, they're easy resto jobs because they're so damn simple.
Being a K series motor, it will likely outlast you lol, and as rmad just explained the rust spots are all pretty usual. If it runs just check for a rattly timing chain, they're not really known for any major major issues, the other thing you might notice is very loud tappets which is easily fixed by adjusting the clearances.
A KP30 is a Toyota 1000, or a Publica depending on what market it was sold in, the Starlet name wasn't adopted until the KP50 where it was used for the sporty version of the Publica (and hence called the Publica Starlet) until the name was use in it's own right on the "bugeye" KP60 which came out in '78.

Oh and don't 4AGE it, build a hot K-series, preferably with twin side suckers, they're worth it for the noise, simplicity and grin factor! 5K from a Liteace/Townace van is the go, no replacement for displacement etc.

Thanks for all the replies, I though this old Toyota would interest you lot! I won't be getting it for myself unfortunately, I have enough cars to mess with and no time or space left, although I do rather like the look of this one. Perhaps I'll turn to the J side at some point soon... It does look like it has a lot of retro potential. I already think I know someone who wants the car, but if it doesn't work out for whatever reason then I will post up on here to see if a fellow RR'r can save it.

Can't let something like that get scrapped! It deserves a bit of TLC, nice 4 or 5k dropping in & just a gentle tap (not too hard;)) with the stick on wide steels. Perfect.

Wtf!!! That looks great on the surface, what psychotic car-hating wench would consign that to a junkyard!!! There's still bucketloads of usable bits on that!
