a friendly colleague, after hearing about my troubles has given me some fuel hose he had laying around, (brand new rubber nitrile hose). before the car had a copper line and brass fittings. if i can find the correct thread can I change the fittings on the carb and the mech fuel pump to this type and if I can, will it make a differnce that the new hose is very slightly wider bore than the old copper fuel line? cheers folks. starting to hate my Hillman!

As long as it seals on the barb and on the pipe to the carb the other end I can't see that there would be a problem. My fuel lines are a mixture of two different bore sizes as my new carbs take a slightly bigger pipe compared to the fuel pump outlet. I used a universal inline fuel filter as the "step up" from one size to another, as the filter has a stepped pipe either end to accomodate different pipe sizes, so the small pipe from the pump fit snugly on one end, and the slightly larger pipe also fit nicely on the other.

I'm never keen on using long lengths of flexible hose as it seems more likely to perish than hard line. Pump should cope fine with a change in diameter feeding it and out of it too - as long as you don't go to Smokey Yunick diameters From wiki...

Damn royal wedding means no motor factors will be open tomorrow will hunt for parts on Saturday and hopefully, fingers crossed get the car running again for the Ipswich to Felixstowe classics run on Sunday. if it still wont go I'll be looking for a new solex b33 or equivalent that will work.
