by the crikey, I cant believe the flack this young lad has received.!!! the fact he's chosen a Mk1 caddy says alot about him in the first place imo. he's not chosen a chav chariott but an uber cool ride, ok he's gone waaay overboard on a particular "scene" but he's young and cutting his teeth in the world of vehicle modding. he'll find his way soon enough and chose a more subtle line of mods I'm sure. he's still got a sponge brain where I'm sure he absorbs all he sees, ie endless cool rides on the forums he's drawn all over his wing. he just hasnt refined the art of filtering all he sees into something he can use.
seriously cut him some slack, if only for the fact the ride he's chosen to mod, as for mods I'm very surprised a mod hasnt stepped in to calm the comments
i'd be gutted if my lad who's 13 next got this type of response on his first motor
lewis, re read all this thread and filter out the bad BUT do listen to those who have offered constructive comments, if only to save you going DOH in a years time.

for the lads who gave the constructive criticism, thanks, it means alot! for all of the moaners and haters; your comments mean nothing to me, apart from a laugh...
as for the paintwork, it's going alot less 'in your face' after christmas...just wait...
and finally, the information about the tyres was on the internet, it said the same on a few forums, so i'm guessing it must be right..

If any of you can remember my previous cars - you'll obviously be able to tell that I LIKE this car! ;D
Only thing I'd change, would be to put some banded steelies on it, satin/matt black centres, and NON-stretched tyres! Stretched always looks a bit..well... silly, IMO
and one thing I'd say to keep in mind, is try to hold back from doing MAJOR modifications. That way, when you go to sell the car, if it doesn't sell easily as a rat-look, it's only going to be a weekends work to take all the bits/stickers off, and cover it in a couple of cans of matt-black.
To keep in line with the law, don't put anything sharp/solid that protrudes ANYWHERE, keep the legal numberplate (on the front!) Keep on top of your tyres (tbh, change any that are close to 4mm) have NOTHING besides the tax-disc on the windscreen, and keep it well-serviced.
As long as you keep within the law, you may well get pulled-over, but they won't be able to do anything about it
and 100eshane - pics/thread, or you're fibbing ;D

I think what happened here was people gave thier opinions, which yes were negative, but you're attitude towards them sparked worse opinions, because it the internet and theres no way any car will ever get only positives. Many aren't 'haters' as you call them, infact RR is the most welcoming bunch ever.
Next time just don't react to negative comments, if you truely don't care for them then you wont even need to give them aknowledgement.

I came here from the Escort thread.....after I saw his criticism of some serious, serious engineering skillz I was interested in seeing what he was up to........
I agree that it's his car, his way but if he asks for opinions he will get them (unless he stipulates that only sycophants need reply)
.....and at 16, maybe he needs to learn when to wind his neck in a bit and defer to those who know their stuff rather than 'f*ck the h8rz@.....coz they aint necesarilly haters and they might have some good ideas.
The internet is a hard place with nowhere to hide....I, for one, doff my imaginary cap to him for getting stuck in.

Ive also come from the escort thread, and I agree with pretty much what everyone else has said, so no need to reiterate it again. Also I'm glad that it sounds as you have taken the advice, and I'm looking forward to seeing it in the new year. Heres a bit of inspiration. My mates caddy looked exactly the same as yours when he 1st got it. After a lot of hard graft and little money, it turned out like this: SG101680 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr

Looking forward to the next update with anticipation. To be totally honest it's not how I would have it, but then I don't like the rat scene has a whole so its nothing personal.
Glad that you're giving it a go and trying though. You've achieved more in 6 months than I have in 2 years!!

well it seems a decent wee caddy, and caddys are nice, but what you've done to it I think looks terrible. its your car, of course, but seems a waste to me when you could've got it looking so sweet if you had just sprayed the upper half in the red with the black lower and lowered it onto those wheels. it would have taken less time, been cheaper and looked 100x better. nobody is going to take you seriously in that thing. you'll get laughed at when driving it. chicks wont be seen with you. I mean seriously dude, you've doodled all over your car with a marker and put ice cream stickers on it. take a step back and look... just imagine how sweet it could look slammed with a red over black paint job...
but hey, its not totally ruined as some are saying, it can be put back.

Funny old thread this, i have to agree the car looks dreadful with all the curse word and stickers all over it, BUT, come on peeps, this guy's 16, I built some right shonky sh1te when i was 16, and certainly thought terrible naff designs were the height of cool..
I think the fact that he's doing the car in whatever style is noteworthy, and deserves a little appreciation, and a bit of encouragement, sure the comments on the bmw/scort build were tactless and, well, plain wrong, but seriosly he doesnt need a slating just because he's chasing a certain look..
I've certainly seem uglier cars built by adults on this site, often VW's oddly enough but seriously it's all down to taste at the end of the day isn’t it?

I don't post much on this forum, but I like the ethos of this forum; if you havent got much positive to say, well move on - your sure to find something else you like... I own a 'personalised caddy' so thought id post on here... theres a few cars on here, Ive read through threads on, and thought - WTF - does that lad actually think that look good? etc etc. ...this is one of them threads; but I don't own it/pay the road tax on it/or have to drive, so what difference does my opinion make on a 'tinternet forum'... Give mk1fiestalewis his dues; hes 'putting his mark' on his car and moddin it, and putting some time into his car- fair enough- not to everyones tastes, but thats that... Its not a ferarri or roller, or something that hes 'defacing' - its a caddy which, who knows what other fate it might have met... the lad is doing some work on it, and he might re-jig things or think better of later down the line - hes 16... Anyhow, while the state of mk1fiestalewis caddy isnt to my particular liking, not everyone digs mine, but Ive tried out a few things on it (nothin majorly over the top), some of which ive changed and some I havent - much of the body is left in the 'semi handpainted by the presumably almost blind, previous elderly owner- he couldnt park it seems either since thers loads of dents - but its part and parcel of the caddy, as I see it -everything under the 'skin' has been replaced, detailed and painted up; every nut and bolt is new- it was a shell when I bought it... as said above, I added to the 'feel' of it 'here and there... bare metalled the bonnet for a day - since its my daily, rust ensued; hate the rat look 'look' so stayed like that for a week... ...and masked in some baremetal flames on repainting it... They are fun cars, caddys - back in the day these were disposable commercial 'loadluggers' - discarded and forgotten... now they are popular again; many seemed to be 'churned out' the same way, just in a different colour/set of wheels; a mate of mine took the boat over to E38 last year and commented on the various 'sterile' (as he discribed it) caddys - mile deep paint jobs with polished rims n shiney engines -hes into his 'buff and shiney cars' but he said he felt 'nothing' for the 'overdone' caddys... each to his own, I suppose... I'm replacing the flamed bonnet on mine - been there, done that, and don't feel that look anymore, but it was what a pair of €7 matt black aerosol cans and a saturdays 'mullicking' - nothing that cant be 'redone'.... sorry for the long reply -best of luck with the caddy build mk1fiestalewis....
