It has felt good getting some stuff dome and put me in the mood to get on with more stuff, however working in Mr Grump zone has been challenging and the man himself sorted some spot welds for me. Getting rid of all rust on one of these is so tricky cos so many nooks and crannies in vunerable positions, and without turning it into a full resto job with full 300 quid rear wings its tricky. The bits of rain last few days has sharfted me, not ideal at all. So this car is robbing me of money and holidays off work now, 2 more days off to sort the fooking brakes, i just hope it gets a ticket this side of July 2 Cos i have NO back up plan, the Sapph looks rough! All in all happy though, a cool lil car, moving out of the garage with no wing or bumper at midnight with the pop ups up was an highlight. So now bodywork wise i need to tidy my filler efforts, do i need some fine finishing filler or summat? Its harder than i remember to get a nice finish! and seal nooks and crannies with Waxoyl or similar? Compostorama to get started, one easch side behind inner wing protectors wating for photobucket...

Well done mate, its really looking good now! You must be happy with that As for filling tips- I find the cheap "easy sand" stuff is nasty to sand, its always full of defects and needs plenty of coats of primer to hide Best stuff IMO is "optima" or that "aluminium" stuff of which the name escapes me, got the word aluminium in it though! Halfraudzz sell it And also I wouldn't bother with the electric sander for filling work, although a lot of people use them I find you never get it as flat as you do with good old fashioned block sanding and elbow grease Whats it like mechanically then, is it just the bodywork needed for an MOT?

Thanks all i really appreciate the comments. Cos CaRS is round the corner i was getting stressed, and until i composed this thread i failed to see how much i'd/we'd got done, this makes me theres still some stuck rust in th nooks that i couldn't chase outtatown sadly, and the dribbles of rain are not helping so i'm keen to kill as much as i can and squirt waxoyl or what ever in there like its going out of fashion. next job then. Brakes stand out as a major issue, disks are rusted to hell and there is no pads left on the back, check out last pic the pad has neen pulled out! handbrake=useless, great for manouvering steep yorkshire landscapes (nearly hit the wall)! Gonna do brakes and not get too fussy bout body work, and hope for best on MOT.... PS I have been using that Davids isopon stuff, picked up at halfrauds! Its ok but not fine when sanding. ok for now though, just wanna keep Jack Rust out for now...

for fine filler try lechler spat-o-rapid- see if you can get it from www.johndaveypaints.co.uk/prod02.htm that chap,or see if a bodyshop/holdings near to you has it. very smooth stuff. As for the sanding, try not to let the filler go too hard and stick to using blocks with paper on,otherwise you end up digging grooves. Which is not good. Remember to fill a little higher than you want the final result to look like, cos filler shrinks a bit while curing, and you'll want to sand it. hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips. strange name spat-o-rapid! used jenolite on the front, need to attack the nigglys with it before it gets ugly again. got a massive tin of black hammerite too and it recons that paints straight onto rust too. I can cheat a little by putting the skirts back on, I was tempted to leave em off, not sure yet...

looking good mate are going to be painting it before cars or is it going to get the primer + guide coat jobbie as that will always hide a multitude of sin's to save a bit of time save you having to worrie about getting it perfect for a good filler to use i always use bonda body light for the general filler work and bonda few for the finish bits and small stuff

Thanks Nightmares, Its a quick fix for now really, doesnt look bad from a distance or specially under there skirts! I have really been leaning how i'd do it different next time, which is good its all solid and should have a chance at the MOT shop. When i bought it the plan was to do a perfect stripdown and custom rebuild , for now though just doing it up and gonna get a feel for it as standard, for now... Brakes were absolutely fuggered so after i'd got hold of the kit these got sorted and now look loads better, still need to bed in. All niggly bits sorted like bonnet catch, lights, leccy window pullys (always more nigglys than you plan for!) Major Bodge up with the ebay wing though, bad news - its gone missing and now no email from seller in two days, pretty pee'd off TBH, if it turns up i'll need to take another day off work fit it, clean it and try MOT, then if it fails, buggered, its the non planned back up! All in all quite happy cos its the first i have brought back from the near dead and reanimated. result! old wing, reall didn't seem worth bodging it back together. Flying without WingFaithful backup plan and support truck.
