ahh sorry, I do remember seeing those pics now (especially the apron one!!) ive shown the missus and shes on board which I think is the most important step lol. whats your knowledge of pizza ovens, I'm liking that idea too. ive been looking into indirect cooking too where its claimed the meat just falls off the bone after such a slow smooth cook.....mmmmm Sorry mate, Just saw your question. I investigated Pizza ovens at the start, as they always sound like a great idea. Found they needed space and some finesse to make them really work.... not my department. Ask Lewist123456789 about smoking and ovens, he mixes good old get on and do it, with some science. His cooking always has me drooling. Or else Google, you will be amazed at what you find. Hope that helps.

Smurf, veedubmaster, Thanks for the comments. In the mean time the wind has managed to scoop the weather cowl off and plant it in middle of the garden, thankfully no one was at the receiving end of the 4 spikes. Yesterday, in spite of the weather..... we had Peter and Jenny over for the afternoon into the evening BBQ and a visit. We had an awesome day. I felt quite bad showing Peter around and at one point he told his wife ha was not going home with her... (they are currently living with her 88year old mum) Amazing how good a BBQ can taste when the breeze brings the temperature down to about 3'C Of course, I had a real Boer plate dished up.... meat, and toasted Cheese, tomato and onion.

MMMHHH! That looks tasty I hope you have still enough German BBQ coal! If not....give me a shout! ;D Cheers Your timing is good. I used 1 1/2 bags of English coal from Wilko, and it died before the first lot of chicken and sausage was done, so I opened a bag of German and put it on top....not a lot, and 10 minutes later we did all the pork belly, steak and toated sandwiches. I have to say, I have saved it, and it was the foirst of the 5 bags of 10kg each that I opened. I think we are OK for now. I am amazed every time I used German coal at just how superior it is, and even after I was finished there was maybe another 90 minutes cooking time left. ( I only used a little bit on top of the dying coals.)

Never looked, but doubt there is a minimum standard on coal over here. I am thankfull every time I cook on your coal that I can order my coal from Germany. Summer will be very good for BBQ, even though I use it all year.

Somehow I missed the oven update to this Grizz, but it's brilliant. Thanks mate, coming from you, it is a great compliment. Wish I was up to the sort of stuff you take on..... well, maybe one day ehhh? I plan on using the oven more during summer to do some baking. I also want to build a smoker of some description as Lewist1234567 always makes me drool at meat products he turns out, the man is a genius with food and fire.

Hello Grizz. You do not know me as I am a bit of a lurker on here and as at the moment our internet connection is probably the slowest in europe it is not possible to bore you all with the saga of my DKW 1000 s coupe rebuild . Any way to get to the point. Ibelive you must be in line for a custard pie! Why? because the voice from the kitchen normally takes no notice as to what I am following ont tinternet, but last night she decided to look over my shoulder and of course clocked you B------ barbeque! Quess what I am doing tomorrow ? Shopping for bbq building material. One custard pie coming up. By the way love your threads. Keep it mate ,if I may be so bold to call you that?

I am always pleased if peoplelike the threads or are able to use them as "tutorials" The Teardrop was on of the nicest builds I ever did, excluding my first house 20 years ago. Do you have a thread of the DKW ?

Just a quick related update. My mate Maverick who lives over in Essex asked me a few weeks ago if I could give some advice and help him rebuild his BBQ. Just a few bricks slapped together.... He had started building a BBQ a few years ago, an got to a point now where he broke most of what was there down as it had cracked etc. So yesterday morning I took some tools, loaded a bunch of bricks, brick paving stones, and some paving slabs and timber I had kicking around here and drove over to his place, getting there just before 8am. Fortunately Dirks mate Andy had loaned us his mixer, so that saved our backs. Once we had cleared off the old brickwork and cleaned up the foundation we could start laying the bricks and making it up as we went along. We worked from two sides, the first time I have ever done that. And what a pleasure seeing progress happen so fast. All the woodwork, doors etc on the BBQ is being replaced with new once the brickwork has dried as well, and the branches etc used on the fire. By coffee break time we were getting on with it. Almost there by 3.30pm Opposite direction. And finally we mixed a cement and sand mix, quite watery at 1:1 ratio as a "paint" to get the outside looking uniform, applied with a rather big brush to fill all the gaps etc and to get it all a uniform colour. Once this is all dried out, Maverick will be painting the outside white, changing it from the current Battle ship grey. So there you go, Easter Saturday entertainment captured on mobile phone camera.

I find that Austrailian heat beads are great and available in the UK. Much MUCH better than other briquettes. If you want a steady low temp for a very long time heatbeads are great, they are often rebranded by Webber in the UK and surprisingly available in Waitrose. I used to use them in my smoker but since found I can get a good steady 8-12hrs out of pretty much any cheap briquettes.

I have yet to find a UK sourced bricquette or coal that gives me the same heat and time frame as the German coal I get brought in by Totti.
