I love those off-centre stripes...was it so you could park on double yellow lines un-noticed? ;D

The charger was the bigger one, but the challenger was by far sexier.

It must have been about 98-99. The only thing with police auctions, or at least the one i got this from, is that they don't sell to the general public. At the time I was working in a breakers (as you can tell from the pics) and the guy i was working for had spent years getting his feet under the table to be in a position to tender for stuff. Also, we used to to take a whole load of old curse word out of there to make sure they'd let us have a shot at the good stuff. It's not like a normal auction where you all stand around bidding. Instead what happens is you'd go down there and have a look around then come back and let them know in writing how much you want to pay for each car you've seen, then a few weeks later they let you know what you've won. I got my Camaro from there too, it had been used as a getaway car in an armed robbery and i paid £200 for it. I think it needed a brake light and a wheel stud for the MOT ;D

If this is anything to go by, then yes, they appear to be both rare and valuable.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Was it a V8 ? or is that a slant six i can see there? I had a mate who owned a challenger back in the 70's after he had seen Vanishing point.( the first one) .The one in the movie was allegedly a bigblock powered car,but my mates was the real weapon,a T/A 340 with six pack option...triple carbs .changing from 4th to 3rd at 80 mph would make the rear tires let go as you floored the loud pedal....today that same car will fetch $100,000 US plus!.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
