Well, here it is! My Mercedes 4.5 litre V8 and auto box... People must be wondering where the rest of the DC10 is that has obviously crashed in my driveway! It certainly ain't pretty, but with a bit of spannering it should be just fine! That crusty green bonnet you can see to the right belongs to a Rover P6 which has joined the "operations waiting list" about as long as the NHS's. I'll update the project once I figure out a way to lift the bleedin' thing into the garage and start work!

I take it you have all the electronic gubbins that go with that? I not, I have them all in a box and they are no use to me. If you are missing any other engine bits, give me a shout.
Good luck with the project!

He-he! I can't wait to get on with it!
ScrapingScrap - I don't have any of the electric stuff! I got hold of an alternator, starter, etc. But from an initial once-over I'll definitely need an ignition module, fuel pump and associated things...don't know what else... I'll PM you!

Just thought I'd update.... After dismantling the intake system and standing around it with a mug of tea stroking my chin, I've decided to take the plunge and go all 21st century - the old K-Jetronic system is going, in favour of EFI! I priced up a Megasquirt ECU and they aren't as expensive as I thought. Other bits I can pull off an old Volvo or something. It's greed really, as I want the most power out of this thing as I can get! Dismantling should have taken hours but took the weekend due to pain in the 6mm internal hex bolts that just lurve to round off, so plenty of welding on big bolts to twist the little f*ckers off - things are never straight forward are they! Now I have to learn to solder

I found a good way to get those hex bolts out on an old engine I had once: Get some M8 left-handed threaded bolts (the right size for the stem of the thread), grind the end to a point maiking sure not to damage the thread too much and use them as a stud extractor! (I bought a packet of those stud-extractors once and they all broke - what a con!) A mate of mine cuts a groove in the head of them and uses an air screw driver to get them out - however, he's always there with a drill in end after they sheer off

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Thanks for the tip! Good thinking. It was hard getting a good weld on them. I tell you, there was plenty of swearing and cursing! - a couple of them had their heads chopped off with the grinder after numerous warnings! Looking forward to EFI though!
