sorry to start another motorbike thread but i thought this would be of interest to a few of the member on here
a few weeks ago a mate donated what was left of his cub90 spares bike rather than let the travellers have it, so with a belly full of beer and a few loose idea's we started chopping.
this is the only 'before' shot i have and it's pretty clear why it was being used for spares
first off we started by 'adjusting' the angle of the folks, we chopped a triangle out of the frame near the head stock, used the weight of four men to persuade it in to the right position, then trimmed the removed section and re-welded it back in place
next up we chopped the original exhaust down, cutting all the baffles out in the process and welded the end back on
obviously the original handle bars wouldn't be fit to go back on the bike as they wouldn't suit the look at all... or would they?..
yep that's the original bars stripped down and turned upside down. we had also trial fitted a 12" pit bike rear wheel and undone the rear shocks to get an idea of how we would like it to sit height wise. while it was sat like this another idea pop up and the grinder/welder came swinging back into action. the top rear shock mount was relocated so the shocks sat at a better looking angle and the frame around the top mounts was no longer rotten as a pear. the handle bar raisers were also removed
then we painted it matt black as there was a can knocking about, this isn't permanent, the colour scheme we are thinking of is JCB yellow with satin black and chrome detailing
a couple of the lads are well into pit bikes and have loads of spares knocking about, so one afternoon they built an engine for it out of some of their boxes of bits. it's got a 88cc big bore kit and some kind of performance carb on it (i could name them but have no idea how they are spelt )
the seating position was way off tho and with the original tank we were very limited with how low we could drop it, so another tank was sourced and we chopped the back end down
the slab is not an addition, it was just used to get an idea of the seat height
and that's where we are at with our little project now. there's still obviously a lot to do but mostly that's finding bits that we want for it. we'll be going with a chrome bullet head light and a speedo mounted halfway down the folks, we are looking for a small bobber type seat although we'll probably end up making one, we need a chrome rear mud guard and a 12" drum brake rear wheel. i'm sure they'll be a lot more stuff that will need adapting and travellering along the way, but so far i hope this has been interesting for at least some of you ;D
