A trip to Sainsburys in Banbury while Spirit VW were fettling the Polo's split brake hose with their magic VW brake bleeding gizmo gave me the chance to photograph this: In stunning condition with its beautiful coachbuilt interior. Not my kinda car really but very nice indeed. On my wandering through the town I also spotted a car lot that has an early '80s Subaru pickup with fantastic period Subaru decals. Dunno if anyone's Japanese tin fetish extends to these beasties but I can testify that they are tough as old boots and have rather good offroad abilities so the farmers really like them. No photos, contact details or price I'm afriad, but the following streetmap link should place the arrow in the right place. www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=445935&Y=240315&A=Y&Z=3

Exactly my thoughts!
Nice clean car though. Wouldn't have surprised me if (judging by its Oxon number plate) whether it was an elderly local type on his way for some peacock shooting at Blenheim palace. Or something.

The VDP metro showed how far the brand had sunk What were the VDP SD1s like? Local plate - I was wondering too whether it was an original owner car. Never saw the owner though. I guess everyone has a car they wish they'd never broken back in the day. Mine was a VDP 1300. In 1987 before I got my driving test. Was given it for free, it was beyond saving rusting as only an Austin 1100 shell could. I still have the radiator grille somewhere.

Rover 216 VDP for the win!!! Those things are mega! They're one of those cars that has all but disappeared and nobody has noticed. I can't remember the last time I saw one. A friend had a Vitesse one in BRG a few years ago, I loved it

I'll buy one of those Rovers when I stumble across one, they are THE definitive serial rotmobile of the 80's... even a Senator is more rustproof! They are a total disgrace!

That Subaru has been outside that dealers for ages. He seems to have a very slow turn over of stock.

yeah i cant walk past it without thinking of ways to be able to pay for it! i want it so bad.
I'm surprised it hasnt been sold yet though. its in a very clean state. couldnt find anything that looked dodgy. it isnt perfect but for a car thats usually used to transport stuff it was very impressive
