Bah, all at once isn't it..... last week i noticed a nice growling noise from the front drivers side wheel, forgot all about it till last night - a quick inspection has revealed a split outer cv joint with no grease in it whatsoever... and this must be a record, this morning i've also noted that - my reversing lights don't work anymore the exhaust is blowing at the front somewhere. it has lost the ability to tick over happily the rear struts are starting to get leaky. bah i say again... better start ordering some parts... oh, and the brake lights have stopped working on my van too.... BAH..

The reversing lights on mine have NEVER worked - it's the switch on the gearbox, common fault.
Not part of the MOT though, so I just wind down the window and shout "*BEEP* ATTENTION! THIS VEHICLE IS REVERSING " repeatedly in a monotone, robotic voice ;D

Like the shouting at passers by idea, although the air horns work best....... ;D PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARP !! this vehicle is moving backwards......

Not part of the MOT though MOT requires them to work if fitted, although vehicles are not required to have them. Black tape over them is enough to convince the Tester that they are not 'there'!

Has it changed then recently? Mine hasn't been MOT tested for two years. I made a point of asking last time to make sure, and the examiner was certain that they didn't need to be tested even if fitted.

If it's not the switch in the gearbox then check the bulbs next, followed by fuses, if they're alright then have a look at the points were the rear clusters earth in the boot, could be that, had a similar thing on my old Mk1 Polo. Luckily my Mk1 Golf has no such worries, as it has no reversing lights fitted at all (see sig pic)!

Well, an intensive hour outside has the exhaust fixed and the fanbelt tightened - it now also ticks over after fiddling with the mixture - i have a nice brand new gunsons colour tune to test on it later when the sun isn't beating down on my head, just the CV boot, the reversing lights and the speedo to do after that...... :/
