Right, this is turning into a right SNAFU this car. I hate the car, I hate myself for not being able to get it done, even after seemingly working solid on it for two weeks, and I hate the fact that it's STILL not going. Every day I have to order something that's broken. Like the master cylinder, it was scored, so I got a rebuild kit. It was the wrong one. Then realised it was the wrong one for that booster altogether, so paid for a brand new one at 70 quid And my rear wheel bearings, I couldn't split the hubs myself. Big 3-pronged puller, crowbar, heat wasn't enough. So, took it to first garage. They didn't do it. For 3 days. So I took it to next garage. They did it, mangled the keep rings, but got it done. Then charged me 130 quid for it. Anyway, I've got them unpacked today.... And the castle nuts are missing.... And they can't find them........ And they're not supported by anyone anymore...... And the garage I'm in is locked down for another 5 days now. So it's almost 3 weeks when I'll next see the car and it still hasn't been MOTd. The, the rear oil seals in the axle tube....spent ages trying to get one out, no joy. How? What's the best method SO, I'm looking for Sprint castle nuts, rear brake H pieces (the little bits) and split pins for the castle nuts, if anyone knows of any, of course, paid for. This thing is killing me , so it's going up for sale when it's MOTd and TaxD. Spent 870 in parts alone so far. Joyous. It sucks. And I'm stuck at home, on my own, can't go find a job, haven't seen any friends because I can't get out. Sorry, rant time! ;D Have some photos. Shiny new calipers, new copper crossovers, Aeroquip hoses. Stripping rear drums "come off you muppet-plucking-dock-ducking nincompoop!" That is all. Apologies for me "spraying" my words out ;D Out.

really doesnt look to be going to plan. on the other hand, all the work now will seem worth it when you get it MOT'd take a break from it, and then get stuck back in...i'm sure it'll work out great.

Halfshafts are often a real shitehawk to extract. Once I got some out with the following butcherous technique:
1) bosh a length of chainover two of the wheel studs leaving a decent 'looped' length. 2) find a 4ft long big thick steel bar. 3) Chisel a nice big hole in the concrete floor of the garage underneath the rear drum of the car and about 5in outboard of it. 4) put the big bar through the chain loop and stick the end of it in the hole in the ground. pull the bar outwards to tension the chain. 5) Use a big lump hammer to tw@t the upper end of the bar like a maniac.
The bar, if its about 4ft long, ought to give you an approx 3:1 'mechanical advantage of tw@tment' which ought to be enough to get the shafts out. Might not be like, in which case all you have gained is a hole in the garage floor.

I know the feeling but a break and 100% change of scenary and/or subject will do you the world of good, seek (like above ^ and below\/) a few tips first, then chill. I had good advice last week here when i was upset with my list of jobs, but i'm feeling ok about it now. having said that i'm welding with my grumpy dad tomorrow...

Not familiar with dolimites but does the halfshaft not just pull straight out of the axle bringing the bearing and seal with it.
Things like castle nuts go to a local fasteners company they will be able to match them up no problem.

also, for replacing old rear wheel bearings, why not just chop em off with an angle grinder? That has worked for me in the past. Obv you have to take care not to muller the halfshaft but its entirely possible.
He said helpfully after the event.

Mucho sympathy, sounds like the sort of nightmare that makes your head hurt!
Just a suggestion. Why not stop the sprint altogether, sounds like your throwing money at it just to get it going to sell it. Goodbye money.
Spend the money on a cheap as chips goer. £50-£100, whatever. Then get out there, as you say, meet people, get something going. THEN go back to the sprint and do it on your terms/timescale.
That way your moving forward not getting weighed down (sorry for the mixed metaphore there). Anyway just another perspective on it.

OOOO ten points! I want anything that's modified, a gearleaver gaiter (not torn), any mirrors he might have? ... Erm yea, and the castle nuts and brake H pieces..The castle nuts are the ones on each end of the driveshafts... Thems And the H pieces for the brakes are the little ones inside the drums that hold the handbrake levers in place. You can just see it in that picture actually, in the bottom left of the braking system holding that little lever in a dead-horizontal position. Or I could take the whole backaxle if it's good And I need the two rear shock absorber platforms that go ontop of the shocks, slanted ones And any funky bits. More speeeeed ;D What's the engine like? Oh I might need a fuel gauge & sender. ;D

Man that sounds like a lot of dollars and not a lot of results. Me thinks you use the wrong garages.... If you can get it onto a trailer and head up the A5 towards Weedon, I heartily reccommend our local garage - Clarke Brothers. They're into old cars BIG time - I'll go down there one day with a camera but suffice to say that last time I was there parked outside was a Rover P4, Moggie Minor Traveller (for sale... brown...needs work), Jaguar Mk2, Cavalier Mk1, Merc Pagoda etc and that's just what I remember. They aren't dear, plus they do MOTs and serve full fat, 4* petrol (at just £1.49 a litre ). And while you're up here, drop in for a cuppa. Stick with it mate - it'll be worth it when you're out driving it.

I know the feeling, it sucks big time! i seem to recall me doing a similar post last year when i was doing the chevette and had to be convinced not to burn it out on the drive! If you have the time give it up for a bit, if not you just have to keep thinking how brilliant it will be when its on the road and at shows. Imagine a sunny day, nice B road, windows down and the burble of that dirty sprint motor - hang in there!
