Model: Rover 820E Year: 1987/88ish Mileage: 108K Tax: No MOT: No Location: Nottingham Price: £200 ONO Additional Information: Put this up on behalf of a chap who lives on our street. This car actually belongs to his brother who has all the relevant documentation apertaining to this vehicle. He garaged this in the family garage in 1999 and its been there ever since. I've had a look at this car this morning when I helped him reveal it from the time locked garage. Only person who has been in here is the cat, as can been seen from her paw prints all over the car Interior is clean, exterior the car has a couple of bubble and blisters but amazingly good for a Rover of this era, I can't see any holes, dings etc. Tyres pumped up, handbrake has been left off, just charging the battery now and waiting on the key to turn up. I'll update this with any other info and progress. Cars got to be worth £120 in scrap value alone if not more. The reason why it was put in the garage...... owner failed his test so put it away in disgust with himself. He has never retaken his test Don't mess with the guard dog! PS Thats my MR2 and its not for sale Revealed after 12 years. Any other pictures wanted just ask. The guy who has it will be moving it out and giving it a clean, I wanted you lot to see it in its raw state first. Contact me on 07980 381116 or PM me for more details, thanks very much for looking.

That is excellent. I am vaguely aware of some story about these SPi 820's needing to be plugged into a diagnostic machine after they've suffered a flat or disconnected battery, does anyone knopw if thats true? I suppose you'll quickly be able to tell if you bosh a battery on and it fires up OK.

This is from a well respected and knowledgeable Rover owner over on the Rover 800 forum where I posted this ad.
Resetting the ECU manually and only as an emergency stop gap til it can be done professionally and accurately using the right equipment is a bit complex but is easy enough if you take it slowly. I can talk you through that.
Step 1. Start engine. It will start it might just be a bit lumpy. DO NOT switch anything on (radio etc and keep doors SHUT so that interior lights do not come on - this is important)
Step 2. As soon as fans cut in, switch off the ngine.
Step 3. Turn ignition on (position 2 on the lock) but do not start car.
Step 4. Depress accelerator five times and release
Step 5. Wait...the high engine temp liamp should start flashing. As soon as this happens restert car BUT DO SO WITHOUT USING THE ACCELERATOR.
Step 6. Allow to settle to an idle.
Step 7. Wait...three minutes idling and the High engine temp warning lamp will flash again.
Calibration is (approximately) set.

The car is in the Lady Bay area in West Bridgford, Nottingham, post code NG2 5BH. I was mostly away from Nottingham yesterday in Chesterfield so not sure what was done. I'm hoping he hasn't tried to start it now I have a start up list for it. I doubt it though as he is a very non mechanical minded feller.

Slightly irrelevant but I once saw one of these go through the auctions in Leominster for £5 plus £10 indemnity, clutch cable snapped!!! Saw the guy bump start it in the carpark and drive home. Plenty of retro win but whoever said they were good cars is very much mistaken, these were in the scrappies after their first mot's,so badly built it's unreal, rust everywhere, dodgy electrics, horrifically expensive on bits and just generally a typical rover, some great ideas let down by terrible production, that reset after a battery change being a prime example, imagine doing that yourself on the drive in about 1994 and finding out it had to go to the dealers to be sorted!!! Obviously a few have slipped through the net and the turbos/Honda v6's were a quick car
