I have absolutely no luck with cars -
3 months ago I bought a 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500. The Idea was to modify it slightly and use it through the summer, a bit of RWD softop fun and all that. A week after I got it the rear suspension collapsed. Two days later the head gasket went, and 3 days after that the clutch master cylinder seized and left me stranded on a main road in rush hour.
So, I took the car off the road, ripped the engine out, cleaned and under-sealed all the chassis legs, and carried out the following work -
Rear Suspension -
New Leaf spring
New 1/2" lowering block
New shock Absorbers
All new poly bushes
All new nuts/bolts/studs/Washers
Goodridge Braided brake hoses
New Diff Oil
Front Suspension -
New lowering blocks
New shock absorbers
New Spring plates
New Anti roll bar drop links
New Anti roll bar mounts
New nuts/bolts/washers
New track rod ends (not yet fitted)
New rack boots (not yet fitted)
New solid rack mount kit (not yet fitted)
Goodridge braided brake lines
Engine/Gearbox -
New Clutch Master Cylinder
New Clutch Slave Cylinder
New Gear Oil
New full Gasket set
New Alloy rocker cover
New radiator
New K&N Air filters
New fan
New water pump
New Plugs/leads/dizzy cap etc
You get the idea. I stripped and cleaned all the engine, lapped all the valves in, cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, painted/polished everything....it took weeks.
Yesterday, on the way to Coventry, it developed Rod knock. Its not terminal yet (still drives/runs) but its not got long. Its really frustrating as this is the one bit of the car I never touched.
So...its for sale. I have neither the time nor inclination to fix it (again)
The plus points (aside from all the new bits) are it is MOT'd and Taxed until August 30th, has receipts for all the parts, has a mint hard-top, mint softop, NO RUST, Mota-lita steering wheel, bullet wing mirrors, an unfitted rear roll cage, and rare BBS style lattice alloys with 2 new tyres. It also has quite a bit of history to back the mileage of 98,000 up.
I'm told the bearings are not a bad job on a 1500, so if you fancy a challenge or have a sound Triumph engine laying around this could be your ticket to some cheap summer fun.
It owes me £2000, and because you have to have a price that's what I put in the title. I'm wanting to get as near to that as possible, so make me an offer
