or, if you don't want to keep the veneer, use paint stripper sorry but I feel people are over complicating the issue somewhat, the paintstripper will "melt" it off and as its a chemical won't do a thing to the ali underneath.... Apply stripper with brush, allow to bubble up, remove the gunk and rinse clean, easy.

Yeah, getting there has taken a few goes at it, but it works, will have some pictures up once it's done.

OK Step 1: Brush on Paint Stripper... return with camera a couple of mins later... Step 2:15 mins later it looks like this; Hose off Paint Stripper and pull off vinyl. Step 3: Repeat Step 2 several times until all but the tiniest amount of vinyl is left; Step 4: Thank cappunicocruiser; Cheers man! Worked a treat, now it looks as though I'll either have to get some pieces of metal made up for the console or I'll have to rattle can it. I'll get some before and afters of it going into the dash too, in the next week or so.

TADA! Before;
After ;The photo does make it seem a bit better than it is, there's a few minor dents in the metal and some residual glue being an ass, and some little scratching. All in all though, I'm happy. Have also masked and sprayed my centre console. Now just have to make the rim and horn buttons of my spare steering wheel black and made a red "S" for the centre button. Slowly does it.
