Following on from the Mad Minor thread, I got thinking about what the guy had actually achieved by building the Minor - and how many other possible chasis / body swaps could be done. Anyway, whilst I was driving home down the M4 last night I begun to under-take (I know very naughty) a Mazda MX6......and I reckon the wheelbase is near enough the same. So tell me all about Spec's, track width, wheelbase measurements etc...... Don't get all excited about the prospect of me doing such a project - I've got enough in the pipeline at the moment...........here's a clue as the what I might be taking delivery of in the next week or so:

Bingo!! - My fater-in-law bought a 944 LUX about 4 years ago. It was on the road for 2 years where he re-built all the suspension and brakes, and put a ported and polished head on. Now they've moved houses their drive isn't big enough at the moment for it as most of the house is being re-built. So he's told me I can use the car / park it at my house if I fit two new front wings and weld the sills up, and he'll pay for all the work and insurance / tax - winner. The added bonus is that it runs on late 996 Alloys and has only covered 80k miles Ohhh.... is the Rocco sorted yet? Well..........kinda! The side's have been sparyed black (needs another coat), and the rubber 'bump' strip has been removed from the rear wing. I've got the chequered tape and the mooneye's stickers - just need to find a day to finish it really........it's looking like this will have to happen the Friday before C.A.R.S!

/\ Not exactly a clue!
MX6 is FWD, but all the write-ups of them at the time were very favourable and I'd quite happily have one. 2.5-litre V6 IIRC. Don't know what they're like as a secondhand buy, I think you'd want to buy them cheap and know it's had a good history as I suspect bills would be large if something went wrong. A few bits would be shared with Ford (the whole engine?).

I thought they had a 1.6 V6? Smallest capacity V6 in production at the time. I've always been intreagued by that engine - it could make an interesting transplant (if it's any good... I don't know)

Supposed to be reliable but complicated, so service history is probably good.

The little V6 was in the Xedos series cars, I think it was a 1.8 not a 1.6 though. There was a Xedos 9 here and I think there was a Xedos 6 in some markets. The Xedos 9 had a 2.0 or 2.5 V6.
The small V6 was also used in the MX3 as a 1.8 I think, and possibly in some variant of the 323.
The MX6 is a much larger car, its not dis-similar to a coupe'd 626. A lass who worked for me had one. Very reliable, surprisingly large and a bit lardy to drive. Well spec'd lots of toys. Its very similar to the Ford Cougar and is the same car under the skin as the Ford Probe, although I believe the Probe might be smaller and lighter from what I remember.

Arg, forget what I just said, I was thinking of the MX-3 MX-6 is a Ford Probe is it not? Those 2.5 V6 lumps look fairly compact. I dare say a Probe would be cheaper to buy, and mechanically the same (as is the floorpan ) *edit* thanks alistairk, not only is my brain slow today, my typing is too! ;D

I thought they were mechanically the same as a Probe.
