You may wonder why I am so cheery at getting a fail on the ticket... however, the car in question (my 1974 BMW 2002) has been off the road, standing on a cliff top in Sussex for 18 months with nothing but an Argos car cover for company. Having sat for this long, I connected up a new battery (£50 - ouch) and after a little bit of churning she fired up... on 18 month old petrol! Better still, everything seemed to work - clutch, brakes, lights etc. So my wife drove her into our local garage this morning for an MOT, just to see how poor the car was. It failed on the following:
I'm over the moon! I have a new downpipe section in the loft, the garage have offered to do the repairs for a very modest fee. So it would appear that the BMW is going to CaRS!!!! It won't be the best looking 02 in the world, but wtf.
She should be MOT'd by tomorrow evening - taxed Saturday morning and out on the road again.
I haven't stopped grinning since I heard the news at 4.30 this afternoon!!
Wooooooot!
- Exhaust downpipes blowing
- Front to back brake line corroded
- Headlamp aim
- Sidelamp bulb
- Rear tyre below limit
