SP60's usually carry a £60 fine and three points I think...

i like the way you budget a few speeding offences into your trip!
it's usually £60 and three points as the cruiser says, not sure how they'd fine a foreign driver though as it's not an on-the-spot fine, you get a couple of weeks to pay it by post.

Jon Go as fast as you can on the strip! ;D Seriously, If you stick to limits and keep an eye out for big yellow cameras and the MPH (or equiv) you should do fine. On the 2nd i believe, the 1st is camping.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Hmm, not sure if they can trace mainland European cars or not. But 70mph in a 60 zone is £60 and three points on your licence. But how they do it for foreign visitors I don't know... 100+ mph on the motorway and they get a bit more serious about things...

Most cameras won't even get you for doing 70 in a 60.

Most cameras won't even get you for doing 70 in a 60. I thought they set them for +5 mph? I don't know why I think this, I just always assumed it. It's definitely the case with cameras in a 30 zone cos I got done for doing 35mph Maybe there are higher tolerances for 60 limit cameras

if you've got continental europeean plates you needn't worry too much about cameras.
That said, if you drive like a c0ck, you'll no doubt get pulled by a real flesh-and-bones type copper (as opposed to the increasingly common automated ones), and he will throw the book at you.

camera trigger speeds depend on the force.... in Nottinghamshire i'm reliably informed by a local boy-in-blue that it's 10% + 5mph.... so a 60 limit camera is set to 60+6+5 = 71mph.

Someone told me that they have to allow 10% for speedo inaccuracy, after that they can be as strict / tolerant as they want Drive carefully lordbongo! ;D

It's usual to allow 10% for speedo innacuracies, but you'd have to know that your speedo was accurate before you bent that rule!

Santa Pod's in Northamptonshire isnt it. I don't often get to that end of the county but being based at the top of Oxfordshire I see a lot of what they do in the south of the area. Northamptonshire plod don't use Gatsos, they use Truvelos. The ones that photograph the front of the car with an infra-red flash. While I'm told they get a lot of pictures of motorcyclists giving them the finger I'm also told they set them quite close to the limit so watch out. In adition they have a very active set of mobile speed cameras but fortunately they are in very clearly marked vans. I've normally seen these used on rural single track A roads where they pass through villages. I'm also told that one of the roads to the north of Northampton has a SPECS system in place but I'm not sure which one. So drive safe and mind the taxmen

The whole 10% rule is that just if they feel generous? They can do you for 1mph over the limit can't they?
