Hello All,
I've had a few more modifications planned for my Mk2 Golf 16v for a while. I have already done a fair bit to it including fitting an Audi 2 litre 16v engine but here's a few more bits I've just bought for it.
1. Lightened and balanced flywheel. I took this picture next to a spare standard flywheel to illustrate where the excess material has been 'trimmed' from it... it weighs about half as much as it's machined right back to the starter ring.
This is a well proven modification by lots of the ClubGTI bods to give much quicker throttle response.
2. Flowed 16v cylinder head. This is a work of art, I don't want to put it on the car and get it all oily but my girlfriend isn't keen on me keeping it on the mantle piece really!
The guy who has worked this head this does all the heads for Stealth, TSR, C&R etc. He did the first head for GTi Engineering when they brought the first 16v MK2 into the country back in 1986 so he knows what he's doing! The valve stem seals and valve guides have all been replaced. The valves have a 3 angle seat cut.
I've got all new head bolts, tappets, cam chain, gaskets and a metal head gasket to fit with it. I will be using my spare set of KR (standard 1.8 16v) cams in this head, don't want anything too wild as it is my daily driver.
I've also arranged to buy a ported cast exhaust manifold that's matched to the head (will the madness never end!) so that's on it's way in the post. I'm not going for a four branch as for one they are a bit expensive, and tend to melt everything in sight with the extra heat.
Not planning on fitting the bits just yet but will post up progress pics when I do. Any comments or suggestions welcome
