so is the rear windows(s) purely for viewing the engine? Or is there another bulkhead/window behind it? and did they copy early Saabs, or was it the other way round?

The Tatra definitely got there first! Their first streamline was the 1931 V570, whilst the T87 of 1936 was the starting point for the 600/603 style - lots of images on Google; Saab didn't start making cars until after the War.
