The last time i stripped a car i rang the scrapyard and they picked it up Before you strip it you could call one and see what they would do If they're an authorised ELV place give them the V5, and if they're not declare it SORN DVLA would say that is not legit because they would probably say you could clone it with another car. They also, obviously, want their records straight The reality is, it doesn't come up. If the scrapper / metal recycler doesn't record the VIN (which if they don't take the V5 they won't) the DVLA believe it's in your possession and because SORN doesn't need renewing that's it The only way it would come up again would be if it re-entered the system in some way by taxing it, driving it, selling it but that's not going to happen, is it? A good point. As a precation, I've put the e46 up for sale on the fleas bays, and in the meantime will enquire with various places if they will take it stripped down. In the event the car doesn't sell. Thanks for all the replies.

A couple of years ago i couldn't get anyone to collect my Opel Monza, so i just chopped it up into small enough pieces to fit into my (wifes) estate car and slowly took it down the tip over a couple of days as i chopped bits off! Hahaha. Brilliant!

I would love to, but the vw Camper has first dibs! What I meant is if you sell it to a scrap metal guy and he doesn't take the v5 just keep the plates and sorn it. It will still show on the system after it's been destroyed but who cares? Here's one here that was broken for spares. 2015-10-05_09-07-48 by srblythe, on Flickr winched onto a truck and taken away, it's sorn. I see what your saying, and makes sense, but is it ligit?

Just went on the money advice website and it states the following: "The Scrap Metal Dealers’ Act also means it’s against the law to pay for scrap cars in cash in England and Wales – so don’t trust anyone who tries to pay in cash" So technically I can't trust the option of someone just taking it away! Booooo! That only refers to taking it into the scrapyard. As an individual you can sell what you want to whomever you want. There is currently a big ish rise in theft with people buying scrapers quoting this rubbish and leaving a cheque (or promising to pay by bank transfer because it's the rules) which obviously bounces but by then they have the car, keys and logbook Excellent point. Ultimately it could be sold to a private seller who happens to be with a few mates in a van, sooooo, technically, as a seller, would it be noted as scrapped, or would it be down to the buyer?

I did what the chap above suggests, but then got a fine from the DVLA for not using an approved recycling facility (i thought they were). I really struggled to get rid of it as well, noone was interested in coming for it with the low price of scrap. Thats a shame. My beamer is probably worth more in parts than selling. Shame it's a 2002, otherwise I'd sell it here.

Hi
Have been thinking. Rather than try and sell my e46, I'm looking at maybe stripping it for parts instead, nothing wrong with it. But what I want to know is, how do people remove from their drive a car with no wheels and partially stripped? Call a scrappy? Donate it? By the way I have no way of moving it myself via trailer, IF I do decide to srtripp it.
