Contentious!!
Yes, Citroen have produced some out-there and iconic vehicles, but the utterly legendary status of the 205 (biased owner) elevates Peugeot. Not forgetting the stunning 304, 404 & 604, the 605 (Ronin), rally weapon 205 & 405 T16 etc.
Is fewer better icons better than lots of reasonable icons??
I'll start the BMW ball rolling with E30 M3, Z1, M1, E28 M5, Batmobile CSL, pre war 328, 507...

I seriously looked into this not so long ago.
The earlier Triumph based cars will be much better as the front suspension, while still IFS, is much neater than the later Marina based stuff which has large towers sticking out. The rear being a transverse leaf is also more compact, although slightly less authentic not being a solid axle.
IMO the rear clamshell lends itself to a hotrod build rather than some forced rat pickup thing that's unusable (the previous Marlin build)
My plan was fenderless with cycle fenders front and back, low, 50s/60s rod style and probably with a track nose.

...i have been told the cab is rusted in places... maybe "not rusted in some places" would be more accurate, you can see the gaping holes from that 1 pic!

The car is near concours for sensible money I'm going to reiterate my comments from your "what's it worth" thread: To achieve top money, return it to standard, especially if selling on car and classic. People paying for concours want concours, not modified. People looking for a nice classic to own or maybe even modify want a cared for, standard example. There is a perception (rightly or wrongly) that modified cars are owned by chavs, driven hard and neglected. Put the std suspension and wheels on, take some nice pics in a countryside location and get top dollar. Then sell the wheels separately for top dollar.

1988 Mazda 323 full time 4WD. 1600cc Turbo Lux model. The car has covered 71,000 miles. 8 Months MOT Recently recommissioned after being stored for 10 yrs. As you can see from the photos, the bodywork and interior are in excellent condition. No holes in the seats and no rust. The engine and gearbox are in excellent condition, smooth gear changes, no smoke from the engine and no nasty knocks, bangs or rattles. Completely standard apart from a stainless exhaust and a K&N Panel filter ( edit:and the massive list below). I was informed by the previous owner that before it went into storage it had a new clutch, head gasket and waterpump. Work carried out recently by the previous owner: X4 TYRES NEW WIPERS NGK SPARK PLUGS OIL AND FILTER 6 WAY ADJUSTABLE D2 COILOVERS COSTING £1000 BIGGER ANTI ROLL BARS HKS GAUGES ALUMINIUM RADIATOR NEW CAMBELT AND PULLEYS NEW BRAKE LINES THROUGHOUT NEW REAR TRACKING ARMS NEW REAR TRAILING ARMS CUSTOM SILICONE HOSES NEW BATTERY NEW GENUINE MAZDA CLUTCH KIT ALL WORN BUSHES WERE REPLACED WITH POLY BUSHES There are only 10 registered in the UK. Carb choice mylittletony

You say it's running well as is, so why change it?
Because the carb is setup for a 1500 doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong for your car, engines perform very differently as I've come to discover...:
My Volvo 240 was fitted with a 2.1 engine and I decided to fit a 32/34DMTL on a manifold from a 740. The 740 application was a 2.3 so I decided to use those jets as a start.
While in the carb shop, the chap informed me I should still get it setup properly. He also said that a 1600 pinto and 2000 one have the same jets listed.
So, after some faffing trying to get it running properly, I took it to a rolling road and was duly informed it was lean.
2.3 jets were not providing enough fuel for a 2.1 of essentially the same engine design...
You could look at a 32/36DGV or the 32/34DMTL as alternatives, they are both very common progressive dual choke carbs giving economy and performance when needed, where the 38DGAS is not progressive.

OK, this is new data that I need to process. My working theory was that the metal being blasted would compress as it was packed tighter together. So, if we draw a line halfway through the thickness of a sheet of steel, and compress the top layer as we blast it with grit, my working theory says that the metal will form a bowl in the direction of the side being blasted. The above author puts forth the opposite theory that the metal will be spread out thinner and want to bow away from the blasted surface. I didn't really understand the logic of that either, I'd suggest checking it if I were going to undertake any bodywork based on it... Really enjoying watching your progress though

It is worth bearing in mind that the modifications you've carried out, although very tasteful, could potentially be offputting to the purist. This. To obtain that kind of price, you'll need some more original wheels IMO. The wheels are desirable in themselves, sell them separately or offer them to the buyer.

well, I've not updated this in a loooong time...
Mini-update:
It runs! It has MOT! I'm driving it to work every day!
I've had a fair of bunch of complications and limited available time, the biggest problem was my attempt to cut down the 940 wiring didn't work, so I ended up buying a custom loom from the Netherlands over christmas.
The oil cooler/alternator space is very crowded and needs some thought in the longer term.
The old carb dizzy wasn't playing nicely with the ECU, so an injection dizzy had to be found.
1st and 2nd were a pain in the **** to engage once up to temp, but a tweak of the reverse lockout plate made the world of difference.
It's still not quite right, seems to be very flat as though there's a misfire. It's had new leads, cap and rotor arm and I've got some new plugs to go in, after that I'm a bit stumped. Once it's pulling cleanly, I shall increase the boost!
Having it back has been great, and even a bit poorly it drives much more nicely than before. It has highlighted a very long list of things (mainly cosmetic) I need to improve, hopefully before RRW!
No pics because it's not had a wash in 18months and has mildew growing. :/

That's flippin gorgeous, loads of lovely details... I've got a fair whack of neat content you folk might be into, if it's not too much of a drag to post it every now and then? This is the kind of content the forum loves and is harder to find these days, it will be greatly appreciated!!

I'm sorry but when responding to a post can you do so in a polite manner irrespective of your view. Ps it's not 'rules' it's legislation. 1. you were the person calling people "quite sad" for "misleading citing of legislation". I said you are wrong (which you still are) and you should inform yourself better before casting judgment. I wrote my reply with an intentionally similar level of politeness to yours. 2. Some dictionary definitions: Legislation = laws (considered collectively) = "system of rules". QED 3. Your confusion arises from rigidly sticking to "registering a vehicle", the same rules/legislation/law applies to anything concerning a vehicle's registration. The wording of the law clearly states: "You won't be able to keep the original registration if it has an altered monocoque, chassis or frame". How can that possibly apply to new registration when it explicitly refers to the original registration? It's literally black and white, there is no grey area. Badrep checked and double checked with the people that enforce the law (the DVLA) As stated previously, there is a large sub-section of retro rides dedicated to the legal side of things, I suggest you go and read up on the vehicle identification side of things. Apologies for further derailment of the thread, hopefully the mountain of evidence will be enough to dead end this distraction...

Also, given that Volvo made over 300bhp on their 240 race cars in the 80's on K-Jet, says a lot about bandwagons. ...with a (large) turbo how come, my engine is a carb from a 240, its got a pierburg, its got a dizzy, but it also has a knock sensor and a crank sensor? what do they do? thanks The crank sensor is used for diagnostics IIRC. I had a B230A car for spares and fitted the electronic ignition to my B21A, pretty simple Bosch system using the dizzy yes, read here: link
